Going to go look at a th400 in an hour or two and I just wanted to make sure run it through you guys before I take it home that it actually is th400 from the proper year the seller is telling me it is. Kind of sucks I got to do this but around my parts there is a lot of swindling going on. Below her pictures from the internet and the last one is the tag that he sent me. I have a question, how easy is it to switch tags on these Transmissions? I ask because in the picture looks tag looks a little crooked. So what's up guys does this look like a th400 to you.

Told me it was off a 73 firebird. Went online and found out the PC code was a 455 pontiac 4brl car.

Cool thanks. Does this have some type of vacuum smog device that is undesirable? Can it be deleated?

If it had a Pontiac 455 in front of it then more than likely its a th400.

They all look the same to me, I need to see the pan to be able to tell the difference.

Transmissions generally don't have any smog equipment

One quick thing you can check is the vacuum modulator. if its facing rearward, its a T-350. If the modulator is sticking out the side, its a 400

THM 350’s do not have a tag. That is a 400. PZ would be the 455 Firebird transmission, not that it matters. There are no emissions devices on transmissions, but some have an oil pressure sensor on the valve body as part of the TCS. It is inconsequential though. That transmission is just as good as any other short tail 400.

If this is for a "Nail" it won't fit because of the bolt pattern.

I passed on it. Due to the price the guy would not budge. I even worked him with 2 different phone numbers. Well I have set a budget and I don't want to go over especially with a core. When I was there I spun the TQ and I spun freely like butter both ways. Is that normal?. I also spun the trans at the tail end and wouldent go one way(but that's normal right) and spun it the other way it spun but screeched the whole way over. I left, wife says I'll find another. I believe her.

Just going to be patient and hold off for another. A 68 th400 is within my reach but I want to hold out for a 70-73

First, I would only consider it a core without a warranty.

About any short tail shaft Turbo 400 can be built to hold all the power you an imagine from a stock block. That one had the console bracket on the side of the pan though it looked like the shifter lever was missing. Not sure about the torque converter. It doesn't look like a standard Turbo 400/350 converter. It looks like some sort of lockup converter so they may have just tossed it in there.

What did the fluid look like? Do they have dipstick tube for it?

The dipstick was gone i think and I saw most of the collar lines bent up.

Hey guys seen this online, do you think is a gear vendor unit Screenshot_20180212-122025.png

Looks like they bolted a drum brake backing plate and brake shoes to the tail shaft
