on my 66 GS skylark console shift, can't get the car to start in park but it will start in neutral so I took the switch off of the shifter and put the selector of the switch on the neutral terminal and the car will start. put in on the park terminal and it will not start car has been converted over to a cable shift. In park on the trans and at the shifter both ends are nice and loose so I don't think there's a problem there. is it just the safety switch it self ? is there a way to check the switch

It may need adjusting, I converted mine to floor shift; sometimes I have to really bump the shifter to part to get it to start. Sometimes I have to shift it to neutral than back to park to get it started. Eventually I’ll adjust the link, since I know what the issue is there’s no rush.

Greg the way your picture is oriented I think the two purple wires go to the bottom two terminals. So no continuity in park but you have it with the switch in the shifter neutral position. Try and confirm that there is no continuity with a meter or test light when the switch is in the park position. Odds are that is the case but make sure.

Crazy you can't buy a new one. With it off the shifter and moving it by hand I don't think any shifter adjustment is going to help :) I did see a post on another site about servicing the switch. No idea about opening it up but maybe that is a option? Fill me in when you get a chance.

Greg I can see on your switch you have an open connection just like the mention in the post link I added above. Check it out!!! GregClarkburnedNSS.png

Asked Loren on the AAC forum how he fixed his.

    Hi Brian,

I've repaired a couple of them by carefully soldering a jumper wire across the burned area. Hardest part was to get the connection area clean. It is the same technique as used to repair a flat ribbon or dash board panel.
