What about an 800 CFM Edelbrock AVS? After reading all the reviews about the instant throttle response and fuel injection type characteristics I wanted so badly for this carburetor to work.

Vacuum secondary, you want a mechanical secondary

I don't know specifically. its not an out-of-box carburetor that's never been used. Its been bolted on and ran. Hes a big block chevy kinda guy.

I can adjust the air valve to open the secondaries almost instantly. When I did that and adjusted my accelerator pump to give me more fuel I saw a huge change in performance but it definitely needs tweaked still. It's starving for fuel when I get on it.

What kind of fuel pump are you running?

Your gonna play with this carb crap then your going to put a Holley double pumper on there and wonder why you bought the other one. Don't get no stupid Vac secondary carb just ask Demko how that worked out plus you will go slower.

Get a 4 corner Double pumper and you will have great tuning ability.

2 weeks has gone by. The roads have been cleared for over a week but my driveway is about 300 feet long and is the only thing stopping me from test driving my car. The first 200 feet of my driveway is on a hill and is still solid ice. I have the carb tuned to be pretty rich. After I installed the bigger jets and bigger accelerator pump nozzle I noticed tremendous improvement on cold starts. Response seems great but the car is not under load. If it doesn't run the way I was hoping I have options. I can advance the timing back to 12 or 13 degrees, adjust my accelerator pump for a bigger squirt, play with secondary air valve spring, smaller metering rod, and step up springs. jetting right now is close to the 750cfm performer. 20210108_121632.jpg

Just took the time to read this thread, nice looking car. I like the 15’s on the car verse the bigger rims on your old car. Hopefully the weather gets a little warmer soon and gets all that ice melted. Saw you are near Washington, Iowa, I have a buddy from college that owns a body shop in Wayland Iowa. So not far from you. If the machine shop is correct then I’m about an hour south of you down by keokuk

I live 2 miles from wayland. I know your buddy as well as the previous owner of that shop. I think you're the first guy from Iowa that I've encountered here on the boards.

20210210_211059.jpg 20210210_211127.jpg winter has been brutal here in south east iowa but as soon as it clears up I have this 750cfm double pumper with annualar boosters to install. Hopefully it solves my fuel issues.

    1. Scare of a lifetime last night. I Saw fluid dripping from my header flange last night with a small puddle on the garage floor. I popped radiator cap and noticed fluid was a little low. Quietly walked back inside to eat dinner...million things are running through my head. Bout to give this car away lol. I then realized that maybe it's just the heater hose leaking from above. Sure enough I walk outside and the heater hose is wet and there is a fresh drip on the top side of the header tube. Big sigh of relief lol.

Now for the exciting stuff! I spent a little bit of my stimulus money today. But no converter is coming yet. Jim basically convinced me that I need his custom made 9" converter for my current setup but his real advice was to save up for the right rearend gears, 200r4 swap , then to buy one of his converters. So I will tune my carb to run as good as I can with the afr and patiently collect parts for the final build.

      Heres what's coming:

Afr gauge with two 02 sensors

New 14" straight through magnaflow mufflers (I'm losing power with turbos I believe)

Axle back flow master 2.5" mandrel bent pipes (my buddy will bend the easy pieces)

Flexible 7' stainless tranny cooler lines that I plan to route through my frame to get away from header heat and eventually route to an aftermarket cooler

      Secondary idle adjustment kit

      More squirters and carb gaskets

Previously I ordered the H pipe kit, 02 header collector's, and some air bleeds. That should be here Wednesday.

I may end up doing a disc brake conversion later this year with a dropped spindle. but the drum brakes actually work extremely well.

Project is getting closer to being finished.
