I installed some ceramic brake shoes in my 67 GS and they are great. http://www.musclecarbrakes.com/bib6473regal.html ALSO... I won a giant trophy at a race where each class got an e.t. shot at the other class winners. That was fun indeed. but I had to continue running in circles till it was over (and I won)! Did it with my 65 GS 401 and drove home with the ac on. ( fun car...till my wife totaled it)
John, There would not be a 3 tenths breakout rule for the winner pairing race. You're qualifying E.T. would be tour dial in E.T. Breakout, you go home, double breakout, worst of the two goes home. Jim
Five or ten minutes between passes is enough for my Ford drums. That's probably about what the times would be. Course I'm slower than most.
Where are we at with this idea???????? Dan? Lyndon? This was talked about quite a bit at the Christmas Party, I don't think I heard a single person POO-POO the idea, most were in favor of at least trying it if the organizers were game. Only the 2 outta 3 pairing WINNERS are eligible to move on if they choose to participate, if not, they can go home or watch. Your qualifying E.T. is your Dial for the remainder of the day. It will be a drivers race to the Final round.
?? Crickets chirping ?? I didn't like the idea at first myself. After thinking on it, I kinda like it. Worth a try. :TU:
hmmm...sounds like bracket racing to me. I'd be in if dial-ins were allowed to be changed from run-to-run. We get a good weather shift from Friday to Saturday, everybody can break-out according to these suggestions.
3 tenth breakout rule will still be in effect. Keeping everyones dial ET the same as the day before should keep the cars close(they should all slow about the same, or pick up about the same due to weather) This will be a true drivers race. Your going to have to cut a light, not blow the tires off, not miss a shift, and not breakout. Pity the poor 11.XX car trying to run down a 14.90 car. If you think the stands go wild when a Studebaker wins, Imagine when a 14.90 underdog trailers one of the heavy hitters. This will also cut the excuses of people who don't bring a car because they don't think their car will be competitive. At the end of the day, the overall winner could possibly be anyone who wins their 2 outta 3 pairing, and chooses to move on for final elimination rounds.
It is Frank. That's why I didn't like it at first either.....however, The 3/10ths sandbagging, err breakout rule is already in place for the Shootouts. Here's the idea in a nutshell: 1. Shootouts are the same as always. 2. The best 2 outta 3 shootout participant has the OPTION to move to the "Elimination" program once Shootouts are done. 3. The qualifying ET is used as the Dial-In, and it is the participants responsibility to get the dial in on his/her windows. 4. The idea of this is to NOT add any additional effort/drama/work to an already stressed Dan/Lyndon/Dennis/staff. 5. The tower puts the tree in "Bracket Mode" and keys in dial-ins based off of window times just like they would any other time. 6. Lining up is not ET dependent. You line up with whomever is next and run. No need for PSMCDR staff to organize the staging lanes. 7. If there is a breakout, your on the trailer. 8. Double breakout, worst offender is on the trailer. 9. It is no secret that this is a race that we win nothing at, however, there seems to be unnecessary fanfare over who is the first to hit the brakes to run an 11.50. 10. It sure would be a crowd-pleaser to see a 14 second car get chased down by a 12 or 11 second car and watch the drama unfold at the big-end. 11. Egos get put in check and it becomes a drivers race, not bragging rights over who can spend truckloads of money to build a 700 HP Pure Stock car to hit the binders, run an 11.50 with a .001 at 128MPH. Why can't the "WINNER" be a 15 second 390 Galaxie, or God-forbid a Stude Avanti ? 12. AND, nothing against the 11.501 cars, they still can win Eliminations, there is no discrimination there. 13. If we have the track later into the afternoon and start the regular shootouts sooner, we would have plenty of time to run Eliminations. Without having to call up cars, and organize the lanes, the runs would move quickly. 14. Since this was Maher's idea originally, he's promised to offer up the "Maher Eliminations Trophy". (name subject to change without notice) 15. I know, the whole notion of the PSMCDR was to get away from "Bracket Night" at the track where your exhaust manifold car is up against Ricky in his maxed out 305 powered '82 Camaro with headers making all kinds of noise. Those shootouts don't go away. The Eliminations are voluntary, you don't wanna bracket race, you can be on your way. 16. No "buy-ins". Refer to #4 above - no additional work for the staff. If you are successful in your 2 outta 3 shootout, you can move on, that simple. 17. It's worth a try to shake things up a bit. If it doesn't work, so be it.
It sounds like fun to me... I would not stand a chance in hell of getting out of the first round, but it sounds like fun.
You get to run the Olds, Rhonda runs the Shovel and cleans house!!!! I am in.... I feel like kicking everyones butt!!!!!:spank::spank::3gears: (Can you tell that I am feeling better??)
That's the plan, keep working on the the Chevelle so it's as consistant as the Olds. Have her start Shoeing it in a couple years and Break out LS6 2.0 !
Don't forget about the rest of your fleet. I heard that Torino out in the barn is gettin' anxious and feeling neglected.
Dennis and I like the idea. We have to talk to Lyndon about it yet. We want to talk to the track owners to see if they can accommodate us. If it is a go, someone else has to run it! We will be busy cleaning up. We do have the track until 8 pm.
All you really need is 1 person at the front of the staging lanes with a pair of dice and an empty shoe box. Roll the dice in the box, the numbers facing up are the two staging lanes/cars to be paired up that round. that way there are no favorites, it's all chance.
Maher said he might award some type of trophy since it was his idea.Might be an old bowling trophy, who knows. No payout, just ultimate bragging rights as the "Top Eliminator" of the event.
A little skin in the game would be fun! $5 per person, winner take it? Need to have two to 3 people. One at the timing shack to give the nod for the win/ go ahead chit, the lane wrangler, and maybe a voice to add to Diego??? Thinking of logistics, 130 cars is 65 winners, figure for rough number 48 stay to play... 48 to 24 to 12 to 6. Oops odd number....bye runs early, but looks like about 5 to 6 rounds to get the King of the Hill!
