In time Greg. But you know, I can almost assure you that a set of ported iron 350 Buick heads will flow better than those heads in that picture.
For now lets think 455. Love the input.

We had a LS1 Camaro in the Shop the other Day we Took out OverDrive Trans and Installed a Chevy Bolt Pattern T-400 We did not use the High Center Bolt at the top of the Block like the OverDrive used. Because we didn't have it to use with the Older Trans.

Greg, you should have asked him to add an extra cylinder onto this instead. :Dou:

As you go from the driver's side over, I was told you can't use bolt #5.

Mike - Keep up the great work!! Even though you know these engines inside and out, I appreciate you taking the time to get input from everyone. :TU:

Almost every block I take to be machined comes back with a peice of the block broken off where the dowel is. Even after I tell them "don't try to drive the dowels all the way through because it will break the block"!!! :af:

I've started removing them myself by drilling, tapping and using a slide hammer on the dowel.

Can this area of the block be made different? :Do No:

(or am I the only one that has this problem? :Dou: )

New to Buicks, but Ford FE experience

Something that has happened to the FE guys has been now everyone thinks they need a $30K 480+ inch bullet in their '73 F100. I am not against anyone doing what they want, but geez! :Do No: What it has done has really kind of split the community into those who can afford to continue to campaign their engine of choice, and those who like me have a storage unit full of FE and 460 parts and a " lightened" '65 Galaxie 2 dr HT that I am going to begin selling off because I am sick of being looked down on for liking to keep in mind the economy of good sense of not remortgaging my next 30 yrs to have a toy. I might keep some 460 stuff for my son's truck, but I can't see how much better you could do than a G-body 455 Buford with a Coan Glide.

What I am saying is, I hope you guys can leave room for everyone on your team to carry the banner. And, keeping products as diverse as economy will allow are in my mind the key. The late Buick engine was the most refined design GM made, they quit for a lot of years in developing new engines. I am astounded by the light weight, the head flow quality, and the general package this engine is for a street/stripper. To go racing, your new block is going to take some guys into the sport with Buick who would have had no choice but do the belly-button thing.

Are you talking about the transmission dowels? If so, why not just leave them in. We leave them in with all of our blocks. It's not often that they move. More than likely the more you remove and replace them, the more problem they will be with moving when the block is set on them.

The V6 block was made so it can be used as a replacement block or a 2000 hp monster. The 455 one will be also.

Thank you......... a kagillion times Mike! When will you be taking advanced orders?

My input is exactly what you are doing. Make it except all our parts we have now with provisions for the killer stuff.

We need to run roller cams without worry.
Need to except your new tunnel port head. I'm sure you'll finish what buick started. :Brow:

Yep, the transmission dowels. For some reason the shops around here remove them when they machine the block.

Man, is there a buzz in the air at TA Performance. Blueprints all over, special meetings, technical phone conversations, etc. I think there is going to be a huge benefit of TA doing the V6 block first. Though the V8 community has been waiting, this block should be a dream come true for everyone and especially Mike T. Mike and his team are trying to take every thing into consideration. And I like to throw in the abnormal requests and ideas, because sometimes I hit a home run. I think there is even a dipstick provision (see I told you there is a benefit of doing the V6 block first!)

Stand by for updates in the near future.

For those of you interested, I will be at the Indy event and would like to have a Q&A session (Tech seminar), love to hear all your ideas. I will not be running a car nor will we have a booth set up. I will be available for conversation through out the week. I plan to attend Wed-Sat.

Looking like the 65mm cam could be a bit large. Also, how attached should we be to the stock Buick oil pan?

Does it make any sense at all to use the stock oil pan, when any (non-budget) high performance build usually has a custom deep sump baffled pan? I say who cares. I guess the issue for some is, at what point is it not a Buick motor anymore.

    Oh yeah... forgot to ask.
Is TA still looking into making swapped firing order cams? Or, has that been put on hold.

Mike my main thought would be what can be done about the oil pump. And getting it out of the cover.

Lets look at Toyota craftsman truck engine it took design from all 3 manufactures and yet is still Toyota.

I know people want something that can use existing parts and should be able to with some changes.

But as far as performance and the heavy hitters i think you need to incorporate some design aspects from other manufactures.

I thru the 65 mm cam tunnel out there and would problem be close to a 55mm just as a thought.

I think we should leave the oilpump in the front cover but adapt the design off of the 3800 Series II V6 for the crank snout driven gerotor pump and set it up so you can remote feed it off of a custom pan if need be because we all know the stock and even the improved stock design like the TA Aluminum V6 block oiling passages suck.
As for the pan, it would be nice to have stock pans bolt up with say a custom pick up tube but as stated above most people that are going to be really using this thing will have a custom deepsump pan and those that don't an oil pan is relatively cheap in the scheme of a motor such as this. I vote for a stock pan bolt pattern and rails, unless needed to accomodate a new block skirt design to beef up the bottom end, but requiring a specific pickup tube to make a stock type pan work.

    Just my commentary,
