Dr. Pete..... come on down and get a true flavor (or is it flavour as ya'll might say?) of Central GA. Tom hit the nail on the head when in a PM to me where he said "that yard really is a rat's hole of a place". :pp There's lots of boneyards in this state as well as across the south. Always an adventure down the road. And here in the South... in the rural areas, it's not uncommon to see old musclecars behind houses sitting up or on cinderblocks (dangerous and illogical) or jackstands. Many can be bought with gool 'ol cash money. A disturbing trend I'm seeing is that many old junkyards are starting to crush ALL their cars perhaps as pressured by governmental agencies or for crush weight. A yard we have used often in Telfair County here crushed all of their inventory which included cars back to the 20's with rumble seats. I swear, I thought I was going to cry on the last trip there when over 70% of the yard was gone. This particular yard really could have done a service by parting the cars out and either advertising by print or internet. I have a friend out in the rural area nearby that is buying cars right and left and has his own mini boneyard. He's stockpiling parts. He did tell me that he plans to sell off his Buick parts soon and has several machined bagged 455 blocks and finished cranks.

Georgia cinder blocks are the best!

What is sitting around the trailer in GA?

That reminds me there is a guy near Thomaston GA who lives in a trailer, mobile home, or PC-"Premanufactured Home".

He has two jaw dropping old cars in his yard, rotting away. Not even covered.

After you ride by, and can not believe it, scratch you head - Can't be?, turn around, and ride by again.

You have got to stop and ask.......

As soon as you get out of the car, he will come out, slam his aluminum and foam door, and start yelling at you, "You can't a'ford dem!!!"

What are they? Two complete, amazing, original, Hemi Cudas! He is asking $100,000.00 a piece. I will try to get my friend Jerry to ride by and take a picture.

Alan, I did not see any w/ power windows. Sorry. I will keep my eye out.:TU:

That looks beautiful. Your father was a very blessed man in many ways:)
    Take Care.

    Re: any 63 4 5's

    Andy,

I don't recall any early Rivs in the Eatonton yard, only that 71-3 boat tail in there. I have spotted an early Riv (those are the ones with the clamshell vertical stacked headlights, right?) at a yard in Griffin GA called Johnson's which is off I-75 south of Atlanta. It looked complete. Also 1-2 of those cars at A+B Salvage Yard in Waycross, GA. A yard near me had one of those (Walter's in Montezuma) but it was crushed when the yard got out of the biz! Maybe others will chime in with other early Riv sightings in SE yards??

    early riv sighting

Thers a big ole salvage yard in Waycross Ga. on U.S. 1 south, A,B @B I believe, Evans knows the one I'm talking about, That as recent as january had an early rivvy there in pretty much complete but rough condition. It still had the "custom built for so and so" plaque on the console. As a jacksonville based freight relocation specialist(truck driver)I get by there from time to time and stop when I have time. There also is a newer yard that I dont know the name of on U.S. 1 just a little more south that has a ton of really old cars that you can see from the road but they dont seem to have any regular hours because sometimes the fence is open and most times its closed.

    is the yard still open?

if it's still open, where is it? i know a guy who lives in cochran who might be able to stop by for me....

do you know if they have any 1970 455 blocks or 3.73 / 4.20 rear ends for the big sleds like the early 70s electra?

Just want to make sure you grab any good grilles- I know the '69-'69 ones are very in demand, and possibly others too. Even if they aren't perfect, they might be good enough for someone...

Yard may still be open but I'll need to clarify with my friend who frequents it. There were a few 68-9 cars and they had grilles but I don't remember condition? Tom... do you remember when you looked at these? There was a '71 with an almost perfect plastic grille. I tried to get it but didn't have vise grips or channel locks as the nuts were rounding. Needed my PB Blaster that day and didn't have it. Grilles could be bought for $20.00 nice condition, much cheaper if broken. Someone was asking if there was a 70 455 block in the yard.... yes there was and my friend bought it after finding it pulled and laying under an old hood. As far as I know that 71-3 boattail Riv is still there. We couldn't get the hood up but there's and engine in there as she sits.

That's funny, I tried to buy the grill and bench seat out of a '67 special that day and Charlie wouldn't sell it to me. Said he didn't want to part out cars any more. He would only sell the whole car???????

    Georgia Hell Hole

    Hi,

Charles said the yard was closed for the summer.

He commission was not enough to cover his discomfort from the Georgia heat and ticks.

He will open it up back in the fall.

He said that they were not going to crush anything for now.

I saw lots of busted grills, and rusted cores, fenders etc. To get anything from this yard has a price. If I could convey how thick the brambles, briars, heat and ticks are I would. You can literally be standing next to a car and not see it. I asked to put a deposit on two cars and Charles said, Why? they are not going any where! That is because they are trapped in this mess and I will have to come back with my chainsaw and take out a dozen trees to get to one, and another two dozen to get to the other. I have a chainsaw, car trailer, a two-wheel drive truck, and a 6000lb winch, but I will need a 4x4 and a snatch block, and that may not be enough. I will also need an exterminator and a leaf blower to get all the critters and debris out of them.

Evans, this is funny I have spent two full days in that Hell Hole and have not run across the 71 with the good grill you mentioned! It makes you wonder what else is burried in there.
    :puzzled:

Cosky scored a great deal on a good 455 motor for 75.00!

Email me if there is anything else I can answer.

Hey, I'm new to this forum, and new to Georgia! I live about an hour north of Atlanta, and seeing as it's fall now, it'd be a great time to go to this yard I just read about--Can somebody tell me if it's open?
    Thanks a ton,
    -Brad

    Brad54,

    Nope, not yet.

He said a month or two when the ticks freeze.

Frozen ticks are good. Sleeping snakes are, too. Not to mention Black Widow spiders and mosquitos. Please let me know when he opens--or send me a phone number and I'll keep tabs on it. But you seem to know him and all.
    Thanks,
    -Brad
