Np. Keep in mind 13v can be near zero amps and therefore is a problem so a load test (or test light) needs to be used for your electrical tests...

Are you still using the ballast wire or a ballast resistor for the points trigger?

No Scott, I am not. When I put the MSD box in the car a few years ago, I replaced the resistor wire in the harness with a 12 ga. feed wire. The yellow wire at the starter is disconnected as well. No ballast resistor either.

I'll have to give that a shot, if the carb checks out OK. I only used a volt meter when I tested it. I do have a new ignition switch that I got in a package deal, years ago.

Well, the GS400 was put in time-out until last night. I'd been thinking about what could possibly cause this all the sudden, after taking it on a 400-mile trip last spring. I decided to fire it up just because and see if there were any issues with it starting.

No, it pretty much fired right up and idled awesome. Let it get up to 180 degrees while sitting there idling. Revved it a couple times, went forward and back to load the motor, no issues. I shut it off jacked up the back, and found the 1/2" vent hose to the gas tank was pinched completely shut. Also, the 1/4" one was broken off the vent filter with the small nipple piece inside. I removed both hoses and see that I installed 1/2" heater hose on it (DOH!), and it's a few inches from the right tail pipe. After reading a post by @Shurkey, from back in 2022, I think that this may have been causing a vaper lock at the fuel pump, since it seems the running issue gets worse, every time you shut it off and restart it when it's warmed up, unless it sits for a long time (many, many hours). Possibly the tank pressure would bleed off during that long time.

I have some new 1/2" fuel injection rated fuel line on order now, as well as a new vent filter thingy. I think I'm also going to put a filter between the steel fuel line and fuel pump, just because it sounds like a good idea.

I'll report back when I get everything in place and take it for another drive. I really miss driving this car!
