i am detailing out under the hood of my 64 riv..... 2 items of concern,,,, 1. i would like to eliminate the ''muffler'' that the factory installed in the a/c,,,, and ,,,, I think that the rear bracket for the compresser aint gonna work with the Eelco cast aluminum valve covers that I have.... I have the bracket that comes on the 66 rivs with the factory alluminum covers but it does not look like it will work......in fact I have 3 different brackets and none of them look like they will work..... :Brow:

I am looking for a rear AC bracket to go over my newly acquired cast aluminum finned valve cover. If you are willing to part with one for my application, I am interested

    Thank you

yeah, David I will sell one..... they are going for insane money on ebay... but I dont do people that way .... $30 plus shipping....
but, the factory bracket will not clear some of the aftermarket valve covers...like I said earlier....

    Hey Doc,

Do you have any more of the A/C brackets that go over the aluminium valve covers?

    Thanks,
    Larry

Ok, probably just as well because I have spacer plates between the head and intake so I will probably have to manufacture something anyways.

Well,,,, what I did was to take the stock one and just cut it up toward the hood and along the side of the rocker arm cover leaving the bolt holes in it... looks factory and has held so far.... there is less strain at the back of the compressor... the most of the strain is on the front end,, because the back mount has the length of the compressor for leverage on the front mount....time will tell on mine.... the factory designs plenty of safety margin into such things.....

Doc, I never got your message via emailweird. I think I will do as you did with the bracket & just modify mine. A coworker of mine claims he can plasma cut mine to fit over my taller valve covers. Thanks anyway.

How important are the small braces that are found under each of the P/S pump & AC/alternator brackets? The small braces that mount to the motor mounts & go up to support each bracket. I don't have those braces and drove without them for lots of years with no problems. If you suggest replacing them, would you have any for sale? Or should I just make them?

    Thanks

that is a judgement call....you can do a lot of things with brackets,,,weld on re enforcements, cut, change them... ect... a lot of times the factory ''over did'' it and the brackets can be changed without harm.... for instance , you could take 2 of those rear brackets, cut them like I did mine, and them stack them together and weld them at the edges and they will be plenty strong and not be arching over your valve covers either.... and there is another advantage to that mod... you can remove the valve cover if need be, without having to remove the valve cover first, plus the engine looks better without that bracket going over your nice valve cover.... and,,,,, it actually looks ''factory''.......:Brow::laugh:
