Piper's finally got a liver donated to her Please pray for her...

Glad to hear Piper is doing well. This scene is very familiar to me and my wife...our daughter had a heart transplant almost 22 years ago...and she is doing well.

They have come a LONG way with the immunosuppresant medications...which helps!

Piper is a cutie...and will have a battle scar to show her friends. Please keep us updated...and if you have ANY questions about transplantation...or themeds...feel free to drop me a PM. I;ll give you my number if you want it!

Not much of an update,but they have now started feeding her formula without any meds in them ( first time since born) for her Citrullinemia.She was getting 10 ml per hour and they went to 20,but she started having reflux(like before the surgery) so they backed it back to 15 and she is seeming to handle it. It's just going to take her a little time to adjust. Her liver appears to be working and her body is doing it's best to function. Time is what she needs to heal and it gets frustrating..

Well...we thought little Piper was out of the woods now that she had her transplant,but as of today,we were shell shocked by the call we received. It turns out the transplanted liver is having troubles.Piper's white blood count has not been up to par and they have found some dead tissue in the new liver. They are thinking the donor liver may have been too small. So now, they call and say they have another donor liver and hey want to do a re transplant into Piper..It's been an up and down day and I am about to go insane...I was so emotionally and mentally wiped out last week and now I have to go through it all again...Please keep Piper in your thoughts and prayers as she is going to have a big fight again.And her mom Sarah who is also about to be driven off the edge. She has made me extremely proud!

 

Pat, there are not many of us that know what you're going though, but we can only imagine..
Everything happens for a reason, Ive believed that all my life...I'm grateful that the opportunity for a re-transplant exists.
I'm not a very religious person at all, but I'm also of the opinion it cant hurt right? My family with be thinking yours.

A little update before I head to Philly...Piper has made it through the retransplant. The found the 1st liver had a blood clot and was keeping the bile from going through thus her white blood cell count was bad.They got done about 2 am and things went well. Hopefully,this little girl can move on and heal so she can have a life that all kids are supposed to live.Thank You all for the good thoughts,prayers and Karma..

Any updates?

 

I am happy to oblige Dan...Sarah went to Philly today and was floored.They removed all of the IV's but one that she is getting her needed meds through. She is now taking her anti rejection meds orally and they even said they were so thrilled at her advancements,they wanted to move her to another floor where 24 hour care isn't needed but it's a holiday weekend so they will wait till Tuesday. The doctors are extremely pleased at her and how well she is doing. It's hard to believe this little girl is had 2 liver transplants in less than 12 days...If anyone is on facebook,feel free to send a request to me,We update the Piper updates several times for all my friends and family to keep up on..
