    Received my wheels yesterday!
They are very nice pieces, WELL worth the price!
When compared to one of my used and abused original wheels, the repo does seem to have sharper lines....it's noticable where the center bar meets the rim, and on the finger notches. It's very likely I'm just seeing 40 years of wear on the original.
I'll have to dig up another original wheel for a better comparison.

They do need some finishing... The mold parting lines received a quick flashing-removal, and need to be smoothed some more, maybe with a fine file and then some wet-sanding.
The finish is a low-gloss black, similar to a Krylon satin-black spray-can paint. My one original has a gloss finish...so a paint job is in order.

All in all, these appear to be very well made. We are very fortunate that Frank took on this project and offered them to us for a great price!
    Thanks Frank!:beers2:

Recieved my steering wheel today also.

I echo all of Walts comments as they will require a little bit of finish work in order to be "car ready" but overall.. THESE ARE AWESOME PIECES! :TU:

These steering wheels are worth every cent and much needed in the 65 community!

Thank you Frank for sticking to your guns and making this project happen!

    You guys are WELCOME.

I just wish I was a motivated as when I started this thread. I have not had my car out of the garage since the last time I was at Yardley's picnic  .

I am going to push myself and get the car at least ready enough to possibly make it to the picnic this year. My business and personal life are so busy right now.

I do want to Thank - Frank again. Without him you guys would still have to deal with cracked steering wheels.

    Bob

Paint them with a automotive grade single stage urethane paint. I have painted several originals with that and it holds up great. Don't use clear coat paints--it won't look right and the clear coat won't hold up as well.
If your repo wheel is already the right color, it can be buffed out to a shine. I had a wheel hand made for my '65 GS and the guy that makes them hand polishes the plastic to a shine.
Do the metal cores in Frank's repo wheels have the two threaded holes on the bottom for a tilt column turn signal cancel cam? Not all of the originals had those two holes in them for some reason

Brian, these have 6 holes in the metal core....one for mounting, one for the horn contact, two for a wheel puller and two others, which I would assume is for the cam. The metal core looks identical to the original. Nice!

I received mine today. The repros are very nice, and the plastic is textured nicely for paint, without having to scuff it up. Thanks Frank!

Got mine too! Looks good. Thanks Frank for getting this done.

Hey Walt, what do you recommend for paint? Don't want it wearing off.

Got mine too! Thanks Frank. I will, however, join the list of folks asking about how to complete the finishing. What are the recommended processes/products for finishing and painting??

    Thanks again.

    Hi Guys:

First of all, I want to thank Frank -- great job!

After speaking with other members, and seeing a re-run of "Muscle Car," here is my proposed plan of attack:

    (1) File down/sand mold seams smooth (comparing lines to original wheel)

    (2) Add plastic filler ("bondo") where needed

    (3) Sand/shape smooth

    (4) Paint (I'm probably just going to use a quality spray can)

    (5) Multiple clear coats (again from a spray can)

    Any comments?

Gentlemen where can I find paint formulas for the 64-66 interiors? What do I look for? I want to have some wheels painted for Bowling Green. Is there an internet site? Thanks Frank

Someone asked this before. I will have some painted for BG but they will be more expensive. Frank
