Hi Steve - The bushings and ball joints were McQuay-Norris, a division of Dana Corporation. From what I've read, Dana and Moog are the best games in town!
I'm trying Perfect Circle FB-254's Rubber Bushings Got them at Auto-Zone for $4.95 each Will do all 4 lowers on the rear of my 65 speical wagon and see how they last Anything is better than the old hard dried out 40 year old ones I have now.
Pics of new bushings from Auto Zone As soon as I can break the !@#$* Bolts loose I will replace the lowers first
Poly sucks My poly frt. bushings dont just squeak, they bang, especially after the car sits and you get in and go over your 1st bump. Never would use them again. I will say however that they were installed by an alignment shop , not me and they must not have greased them. Dan
Poly is noisy! I am currently in the process of REMOVING all of the Poly bushings in my car, and replacing them with Global Wests' Delrin or Herb Adams Teflon bushings. If you want high perf. you have to go all the way. Poly binds AND make lots of noise!! I will be very happy to have them out. My $.02 Andrew
Well, like I said ealier in this post, I have the polygraphite bushings in my 68 right now. They handle great, ride rough and squeak all the time. I have thought very seriously about removing the, and installing good quality rubber ones in it. Being a convertible, they squeaking is very noticable with the top down driving through town. Every little bump, SQUEAK :af: SQUEAK :af: Maybe I'll yank them out this winter, if I have the time. Dan :3gears:
I only have a couple thousand miles on my poly bushings. They don't make any noise. How long did it take for yours to start making noises? I do have a rough ride that I have to fix.
what about global west del-a-luminums anyone tried them? might be an option. How did u like the ones from that website you posted i might consider them also. thx
I've had the polygraphite bushings on my car for a couple of years now (front, rear and sway bar). They were properly greased when installed and have never squeaked. The ride is more taut, and gives slightly more ground clearance while going over bumps. Would I do it again...NO. Although it handles better it rides worse, there's just too much bounce in the ride. Maybe its a bad combination with the air shocks in the back.
I would go with Global West Del-a-lum bushings. Poly are too hard and squeeky. If you don't want to do the Del-a-lum then I would go with OEM. Depends on if you want a little more performance from them or not. Mark
I bought the Super-Poly set for my 65 from PST. Looks like a gret kit....I still havent put them in yet.. ou:
Since I have never heard anything but complaints about poly, we are using all MOOG components on the Oklahoma Academy project car. I have always used either stock or MOOG on all of my resto cars. Have had no problems with either one.
A friend of mine has them on his vega .It has a 350 chev in it and he swears by them. He says the trick is to make sure the car isn't jacked up when you tighten the bushings .If the car is up and you tighten the bushings .When it is lowered the bushings are already preloaded and will squeak. But if you set the car down in it's normal position and then tighten the bushings they will flex the way they were intended to . Makes sense but I've yet to try it.
energy suspension i have always used energy suspension bushings. just use the grease that they come with. i haven't had any noise at all and my car got driven in the warm and cold weather for about 6 years. that is my camaro though which is waiting for me to finish the 555 dart bbc  the urethane ones never bind so it don't matter if you tighten them up with the car up in the air. since they don't bind the suspension is allowed to travel it's full range smoother. besides they last longer.
bushings 101 you ALL need to read this thread on the chevelle board. there is ALOT of great information in this thread. yes it is 8 pages long. yes you need to read it ALL. HERE IT IS.
Does anyone have any experience with TRW bushings. This is all I can find around here at the parts stores. Autozone has their own brand and so does NAPA. At least TRW is something I am aware of. Is MOOG that much better than TRW?
No problem... i have a ton of disc brake info i am working on when i get the chance also. big brakes for relitively small $$. i would like to make thread out of it when i have my ducks in a row. the exciting part of it is... one of the conversions, utilizes a drum brake spindle.
I want to change the polygraphites for Moog rubber bushings in the upper rears on my 70 ASAP. Does anyone have the part numbers and or vendors?
