I stripped the wagon and put it into primer.

Dear Jim, Josh, and V-8 Buick longroof fans,

Yes, the start of a long journey but hopefully you'll get that wagon back to life!

Best of luck getting your longroof back and happy on the road!

Thanks! Between my getting a new business off the ground now, but not retiring from my current job until the end of November, there won't be much time, or money for doing things to my wagon. I am working a deal to have new floor pans installed, though. I hate that it has been off the road for almost 25 years. I guess every step forward is a victory right now.

Josh, I don't know what happened to my original pictures. They disappeared off another site, too. :Dou: Strangely, other pictures I posted at the same time did not.

How long have you owned your wagon? (Re: Progress on the Wagon)

Dear Jim and V-8 Buick longroof fans,

Well, at least it is protected. So long as you prevent any further decay, it will be waiting for you when you have more time to work on it.

How long have you owned this wagon? Longer than the 25 years it has been waiting for this work?

My wagon has been in the family since 1968, so I'm trying to save the family heirloom.

    Cheers, Edouard

Re: How long have you owned your wagon? (Re: Progress on the Wagon)

My parents bought it used in Savannah at Critz Buick in 1969. After many years of hard use by my parents, older brother and oldest sister, a transmission failure deadlined it. I put it back together on a shoestring budget in high school and used it for daily transportation, including a cross-country move, until 1986. I parked it in 1991 after I bought my first house. The forces of evil conspired against me, sending funds elsewhere.

Still a nice story! (Re: Progress on the Wagon)

Dear Jim and V-8 Buick caretakers of family heirlooms, . . .

Your Buick was lucky. We found ours at a Dodge dealership! . . .

Yup, kind of a similar story. Lucky for me, I was the oldest! When the transmission failed, I had enough cash to pay for the repair - and I got myself a wagon in the deal! :)

Sounds like your wagon also was a very faithful servant. Mine has never been east of Arizona or Nevada, but she has been in 5 states and even a very brief visit to Mexico. She definitely didn't like the roads there . . . Alas the roads in California today sure look like those roads in Mexico in 1998.

Alas, the forces of evil seem to be particularly mean to wagons. In 2010, after 45 years of faithful service, it was time for a mechanical restoration. After six months, my wagon was running great and even ready to do some car shows. In November of that year, she was whacked by a German sports sedan and her rebuilt engine of 2001 was found to have "valve train issues." At least one possible cause was the removal of ZDDP from motor oil. I've been trying to get her back in operation since then and . . . . not having a whole lot of luck either . . . . :af:

Hopefully both wagon's our fortunes will improve in the near future! [IMG]

    Cheers, Edouard
