Cool. I'm going to run my Dually Truck this year.

It's not legal, but it will be a good race and I'm having fun.

I guess that's all that matters :TU:

You could set up hay rides in between runs! How about turning on the VHT sprayer while your racing Ted? You could help the guys behind ya? Just a nice thought to help out the fun factor! Just trying to help all those out there that are confused trying to find some direction about what the race is about.

From an outsider looking in...One who had intended to remain silent initally. My intent is not to insult or offend anyone involved, these are merely my observations.

At one point I considered building a car for this event. I personally find the "non-competitive" nature of PSMCDR attractive. In the past, in hobbies other than muscle cars, I thought it would be a good idea to enter similar competitions. In the end it became so competitive that it was no longer fun. It had become a job rather than a hobby. After reading this thread, I fear this to be the case here as well, but I find myself scratching my head and asking "what are the entrants competing for?" "Magazine coverage?" "Bragging rights?" "Admiration of one's peers?" If that is the case, fine. But there are richer rewards to compete for elsewhere.

Then...I quickly perused the PSMCDR rules, and one thing stood out right away.

The most important rule: Your musclecar must be stock, except for the modifications outlined below. If a modification is not mentioned, keep it original! Remember, the goal is to have fun drag racing your musclecar. See old friends, make new ones, and enjoy all the cool cars on the track!.

As I continued to read through the rules, I noticed many that were in conflict with the statement in the first rule. Perhaps this first rule should read YOUR MUSCLE CAR SHALL BE STOCK, PERIOD. Were there no exceptions to this first (and most important) rule, this conversation would be unnecessary. There would be no car at the event(s) that could even approach violation of the new 11.49" rule.

I admire the event coordinators for sticking with it. They have tried and succeeded, at least in the past, in creating a venue that has been fun and popular for both entrants and spectators. As I recall not long ago they were close to abandoning their efforts because of the very kind of dissent and argumentation that I have been reading in this thread. I fully understand their frustration. They have modified the rules to oil the sqweeky wheels, and now that those wheels are propelling cars to a speed that violates track safety rules, they must bend to meet those requirements as well. I would not blame them for throwing their hands up in defeat.

I am sure there are truck drags and farm equipment races you could go to if you wanted to. I don't know, I am from Chicago but even if the rules are stretched I believe the event is called the Pure Stock MUSCLE CAR drags so I think making a joke of Ted's post is a little childish. We have been attending this event on and off since 2000 and bring a car when we have time. We all have had a blast so far but it sounds like this race is going down hill real fast. No offense to Bob and Dan either I think they are putting in a huge effort to try to make everyone happy!

Not childish, just pointing out the absurdity of the argument.

As you pointed out it's called "Pure Stock MUSCLE CAR drags" so at what point do you abandon the "just having fun" argument and apply the "Pure Stock" argument?

  6. what is ironic to me is the word pure in the "Pure stock muscle car drags" title. based on some of the arguments in this thread for many cars that couldn't be further from the truth. why not call it mostly stock muscle car drags or used to be stock muscle car drags. I find it interesting that some guys spend big money having a purpose built engine for this class. I'd participate in this race were i closer and I'm sure there are others who are close enough who might like to participate some day but from what somebody posted earlier in the thread it sounds like you don't need or any anymore racers in this event. also sounds like the spectators are expendable as well.

BINGO!!!!!! :3gears: I'm done reiterating and defending against the mantality that it just a picnic and pack your basket with whatever you want! I'm thrashed as this seems endless on the same topic every 6 months!

Great race, that is all I can say!

11.49 and out infers a car cannot be made sooo stock as to require a rollbar.

    11.49 And OUT!

For the better of the group as a whole, it looks like a great way to grow the field while respecting the wishes of the promoters and track owners. As was said roll bars wouldnt exactly fit with the pure stock Muscle Car look. Competitive guys should love thisas new entrants catch up on the tune itll get a lot more crowded at the top of the ladder.

It doesnt take being an active participant to understand the situationwhy should the track owner knowingly risk losing his insurance coverage for this (1) race? Probably the only solution given the circumstances.

If you want to, need to, or must go faster, the guys over in FAST are there.

I wonder how many racers that consider themselves "Pure Stockers" would race in the FAST class if the PSMCDR would allow FAST cars. I would bet there is plenty of guys that own one car that wouldn't want to exclude themselves from the PURE STOCK DRAGS parking lot party by having FAST written on the window.

For the life of me I can't understand why the tracks insurance keeps coming up. The track has insurance... and I bet they don't turn cars with roll bars on a daily basis. Why the hell would the track owner care if a car had safety equiptment in it. I would think they would love it.

If your guilty and you know it >move to FAST,
If your guilty and you know it> move to FAST,

If your guilty and you know it, DEBATING for a rollbar will surely show it,
If your guilty and you know it>MOVE TO FAST !!!!!!!!!

I'm not turning anything around Brian. Look back over all these posts and some folks act like the dragstrip is going out on a limb by allowing a car to go down the track with a roll bar. Just as you think I am trying to turn this around I think most of this post is a huge joke. I have Fast cars, and I have Pure Stockers I know which car goes to what races. My 13.50 Duster doesn't require a roll bar so none of this crap applies to me but a friend of mine has a bracket car that isn't very fast. He has a roll bar and all the proper safety equiptment, My 13.50 car would hand him his ass. He wants to go home to his family at the end of each day. Who here can blame him for that? Most people look at his little Dart and think it is much faster than it is. He takes alot of heat for having such a slow car but he is just a racer that wants to win and go home. I sure as hell aint one of the guys that gives him grief for having a bar in a 14 second car. You guys act like some tube is going to ruin the event.

Exactly my position as well. It's enough that most of these cars are "ringers" as far as being really "pure stock" so anything that keeps these races as real as possible has my vote. Truth be told, I'd be in favor of raising the break out time even higher.

---------- Post added at 10:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 AM ----------

Thanks for posting what my response would have been almost to the letter. And, to take it one step further, why not allow these "gamers" to compete with their high dollar cars in a separate "exhibition only" class? Then, they can add the safety equipment required for the times they run?

Who Gives a rats a$$.... It all still comes down to enforcing the rules that we have already had. And saying goodbye to those that break them.
We have racers that feel they can do anything and get away with it. Because we are all here Just for the party ! That I can run any parts I want, cuz there not gonna stop me.
A sense of entitlement, and arrogance. And this isn't aimed at just a stupid Firebird !
First time someone got busted with a pusher pump. There a$$ should of been booted . Not debated about on this board whether it helped or not.
Cause we all Know - Everything does nothing ! I hope the new Tech guy - TECHS like NAZI.

Anymore - I don't care what the rules are. Just Pickem .... Stick with them .... And for GODS SAKE ENFORCE THEM !!:af:
All I ever wanted was the same rules for Everyone . And the chance to make my car as fast as I can being legal.

    Mr. Miller...

That was f..in hillarious. I laughed so hard i think i peed myself a little.
