Can anybody tell me where I can purchase a good quality aftermarket heater core. I am getting tired of replacing them.

    Thanks,
    Gary

I gave up on repro heater cores.

My original Harrison heater core was rebuilt by R&R Radiator in Superior, Wisconsin.

Used USA materials, and the workmanship is flawless.

If you think the repro cores are equivilent, think again.

The rebuilt unit weighs about 30% than a new repro unit.

Maybe you just had a run of bad luck with the repros. I bought one at the local Autozone for my Ford and it has lasted for years. Is there something about your engine or car (such as lots of vibration or super-high coolant temps) that is rough on heater cores?

When I messed up the original core on my GS, I took it out and re-soldered it. Not a fun job, but it's holding up so far. If you have your original, you might try repairing it.

I think I just wasn't keeping up on the ph. Before I knew it I saw a big crusty area around the bottom hose where it connects to the front cover. When I took off the hose so I could clean it up I found half the aluminum nipple completely corroded away. Since then I got a huge leak in the heater core and just the other day I now have a leak in the radiator. I think I will just hang myself!!

Thanks, David. I want to order one of those for my 1969 GS 400 with no A/C. Is the part number you linked the right one for my car as well? I am having trouble using NAPA's car application software.

Yes that would be the same, 68 -72 Skylark and 68 - 69 Special

That should be the one for you, Part # 6603027

I had to look it up as a Skylark as they don't list the heater core for the GS400, parts places are funny like that sometimes, you have to look it up as the base vehicle...

I worked at a parts place for a few years and I still remember some of the tricks :TU:

Thanks again for that info, David. Now I will be able to drive without fear of the old core cracking and hot, greasy, smelly antifreeze leaking inside on to the new carpet. :)

    Your welcome...

I have to replace mine also, I've had it for a year or so now, I just don't feel like pulling the hood, fender and all that BS that go's with replacing it

I bought mine at Advance Auto. The joints look weak where the old one was leaking so I re-solder all the joint. No leaks yet.
