Kids in the back seat, hair blowing in my daughters face = windows UP (followed by the top). Every other time= top DOWN, windows DOWN. Need to hear the tires spin when I hit second, third and a nice chirp in fourth :TU:

The only time my windows and top are up is when shes parked , stored or being washed. Other than that, if it leaves the garage, everythings down.

The weird thing is that you completely lose the sensation in a late model convertible. My wife has several, and on the rare day they come out, your hair doesn't get messed up or anything. Seems like the smells aren't there either. Like riding in a closed car even though you aren't. Give me a vintage convertible ANY day! :beers2:

I have no problem admitting...after a warm day cruising topless, and it turns brisk at night, I would rather keep the top down and put the windows up with the heater on, than put the top up.

Hey here in the Pacific NW we cherish the sun but some mornings its cold Like today at 5am going to work it was 42 degrees but almost 70 in the afternoon so when its below 55 Ill admit Iam a wuss but I want to drive the conv. so I will roll up the windows and turn on the heat and I car pool with the wife to work ( the hair thing) but any warmer its blowing in the breeze.
She bugs me in the winter to drive the conv if its dry and sunny. So I guess I would rather be laughed at in a conv with the windows up then drive a hardtop in the sun.:moonu:

In the motorcycling world, we have an expression for automobile drivers:
"Cager", 'cause the person(s) is trapped inside a cage ...

One of the *best* descriptions about the difference between riding a
motorcycle and driving in a car is in the book, "Zen and the Art of
Motorcycle Maintenance", by Robert Pirsig - some of you philosophy
folks probably read it in college ... it's a great book, everyone should
read it ...

"You see things vacationing on a motorcycle in a way that is completely
different from any other. In a car youre always in a compartment, and
because youre used to it you dont realize that through that car window
everything you see is just more TV. Youre a passive observer and it is
all moving by you boringly in a frame.

On a cycle the frame is gone. Youre completely in contact with it all.
Youre in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence
is overwhelming. That concrete whizzing by five inches below your foot is
the real thing, the same stuff you walk on, its right there, so blurred you
cant focus on it, yet you can put your foot down and touch it anytime,
and the whole thing, the whole experience, is never removed from
immediate consciousness."

It's a similar experience in a convertible, except you're still removed
from some of the elements.

Ha! It's not uncommon to see me riding (motorcycle) on the freeway,
at night, in the dead of winter. But I digress ... I agree on the "windows
must be down".

As a general rule...all windows down, top down and properly folded with boot on...

But there are exceptions...middle of hot, humid summer...wife won't tolerate hot air blasting in her face at hiway speed. Late fall color cruising...I've been known to put windows up in late afternoon when I/we underdressed for temperature drop. In garage...windows up to support car cover. Top never goes up. She's a pampered cruiser/garage queen...

Collector:

Is there a thread explaining some history of your car? Including how it left Buick after '70? Is it a similar story to Brad's GSX being sent through the regular sales channel? Thanks.

Brad's car and mine were sister cars and toured the show circuit together. There is a magazine article featuring both cars together in a 2005 Hemmings Muscle Machines issue. I just dug the magazine out and it is from the August 2005 issue. Maybe someone here can post it if you're interested.

I had power windows installed because of looking queer with the top down and windows up... And what the hell were they thinking with power tops and manual winders???:Dou: :af:

Many times I dropped the top at a long light, but never long enough to get the windows down, and always in too much of a rush.

In the mid 80's I had the top down around 32*, but that was because there was 7 of us in the car, and 5 were girls. I'm sure beer had nothing to do with it. :beer

I don't know! :Do No: Have to look when I get back to Pa tomorrow night. Not sure the GM part numbers are still on them, so I may have my work cut out for me trying to figure out which one is missing!

My son and I just went for cruise on Sunday morning down Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The lake on one side and the beautiful city on the other - nothing like looking up at the skyline from the convertible! I must admit on a cold night the top stays down, the heater goes and the windows go up!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Ah yes, city skylines...very nice to look at in a convertible while moving. Enjoying a nice hot sunny day downtown...However, nothing sucks worse than sitting in rush-hour traffic in a gridlock whilst frying in your own fat.

Then and only then do I wish I had the California options package for my car; - air conditioning!

Hey Collector--I may have asked you this and missed your reply, but I couldn't help noticing your totally white interior---dash, column and all. Was that stock? If not, how did you do it? I have a 72 Skylark convertible with a white interior and would love to make it ALL white.
