My Father's 1967 Riviera GS also had the climate control system, and I remember him warning that all the parts (a/c, heater) needed to be in place for the entire system to work. Maybe they fixed this problem by 1972?

If you are only removing the compressor, condenser and under hood AC hoses, you will be fine. If you invade the box under the dash and start removing components, you may compromise the heating system. I see you live where it doesn't get all that hot. Is that your reason for removing the AC?
