I guess I am wondering how big the BCA national shows get. Is it like a 100 car show or a 1000 car show? Have not ever been to one but I am planning on bringing my 1916 Buick D55 Touring car (early Buick muscle!). Anybody coming up to the frozen tundra in July for the BCA nationals in Rochester MN? Andrew
Hey Andrew, welcome to V8Buick! This will also be my first BCA national meet, I'm just a few hours away in Fargo ND. Not sure what a typical car count is, but I'm sure we'll hear from someone who's familiar with those #'s. How about posting a pic of that early Buick muscle? I'm sure I'm not the only guy here that would love to see it.
Typical car count for the Buick Club of America National Meets runs in the 500 - 750 car range. The numbers are somewhat lower for the meets held far from the central areas of the country. Ebling, you may enjoy checking out the Pre-War Buick Forum and Pre-War Buick Division at the Buick Club of America website: www.buickclub.org The forum created for owners of the pre-war (WWII) Buicks has been very active, with a great deal of interest in even the very earliest models.
Andrew, I have been to every BCA national meet since 1971, and as Brian said , the numbers vary. I would expect that with the 2007 meet going to the west coast, you will see 500- 600 Buicks at Rochester. The Pre-war division is going to make its first showing, so an early Buick such as yours will certainly be appreciated. I am a member of the group, but just got in by an eyelash ,as my prewar Buick is a 1940. it still lets me make the cut! If yo see a "sequoia cream" 40 Super convert with twin spotlights and skirts, stop and say "Hello" I usually have a soda, water, and an "adult beverage" or two in the cooler :beer :beer
Hi Andrew, I am just over an hour from Rochester MN and I plan on making the trip with our 65 Skylark Gran Sport. (My brother is bringing his 64 Skylark Sport Coupe and my Dad his 64 Wildcat). This will be my first Buick National Meet and I look forward to it, I used to have Studebakers and took in several of their National Meets, but my wife decided we needed to get a car it was easier to get parts for,.....(I guess I agree), and we were brought up in Buicks, so it was only natural. Can't wait to see your D55 Touring,......if you can, post a photo. John :3gears:
Thanks for the replies about the Rochester show! I cannot hardly wait to get down there. I would have liked to have the 70 GS 455 convert done for the show, but the body is still off the frame. I am at least hopefully going down with the 1916 D-55 so it should be a grand old time. The car is in storage and I will try to get a picture up when I get a chance. Has anyone had any good experiences with the swap meets at the BCA shows? Thanks much for the replies, Andrew
Fly out later on Friday evening or let me have the keys to the Reynold car and I will drive it over for you.
 Naw, I would have to put highway gears in, and Pop would turn over in his grave if there were anything other than drag gears in it....otherwise I would
I live in Rochester and plan to be there ( duh- no drive time !) The only place that has space for that amount of cars is the fairgrounds. Ther are lots of motels, resturants, etc. within walking distance. The town is pretty spread out but the grounds are on s. broadway- also known as state hwy 63. Many other motels on the north side also . I have been to the GSCA Nats. and could help with any info you may need. For lodging and such please call the Rochester Convention Center first- 1-800-634-8277 . If they don't have an answer to specific question, PM me. I will have a silver 84 T-Type and a blue 70 Stage 1 in and around the area of the show.
No worries. We had the factory optioned 4.78 gears in our first Gsx and I drove it on the street so I am in practice, ready willing and able to provide this service.
Some answers Hey there! I belong to one of the chapters co-hosting the 2006 National and can answer some of the questions. We are currently planning around an expected number of 500-600 cars. Every meet is different and we would certainly welcome more We are having the show at the Rochester Civic Center in downtown. The swap meet will be held inside an arena there (air conditioned!) along with registration, hospitality and meeting rooms inside. Our plans are to have the showfield on the park which the Civic center opens into. There is a great deal of room and the city of Rochester has been very accomodating and helpful. If you are looking to make hotel reservations the reports are that the Kahler and Holiday Inn are filled, although there is always a possibility that rooms may open up. We are directing people to make reservations at the Radission which is right next to the Civic Center. Make sure to mention "Buick Club of America National Meet" for the special discounted rate. Our weblink above will give more details. If there is anything else I can help with let me know. We are excited and looking forward to a great turnout of many interesting Buicks! :3gears:
