I don't see any mention of spools, gun drilled axle's,etc. Might want to make a change in the rules there. If you don't list it, someone will assume(grey area)

Cars will be weighed without driver? How are they going to figure rwhp for our shootout sheet's? Just not worry about it?

I don't know about these NHRA weights, some of them are just goofy, and don't make sense.
Just for the sake of arguement, I had a friend lookup a 67 Olds 442, and compare the weight to a 67 Buick GS400(that has a fully boxed convert frame in a hardtop) The Buick NHRA weight was listed almost 100 lbs LESS than the Olds...........I don't think so:puzzled:

Are the weights manipulated to what ever a brand wants, for example NHRA cam lift ,buick stock versus the MUCH bigger Nhra number. A no I'm not picking on buicks right now ,it's just one example of brand fluffing.

Jim, 3538 for the coupe and 3554 for the hardtop.

Tom, the wording is in there about spools

I wonder how many people are gonna crank up the compression now because they can? Now that the standard has changed it makes for some cloudy data. There will be the way it was and the way it is. I'm not sure I would have gotten away from NHRA compression. Would have been easier to deal with the offenders I think. It will pep up some of the slower/newer cars.

Rear Axles: The rear axle must be of the same manufacturer as the car. Any gear ratio is allowed. Lightweight driveshafts NOT allowed. Driveshaft safety loops are mandatory on all cars 13.99 and faster! Spools are NOT allowed.

The first paragraph sums it up for me.

"Your musclecar must be stock, except for the modifications outlined below. If a modification is not mentioned, keep it original! Remember, the goal is to have fun drag racing your musclecar. See old friends, make new ones, and enjoy all the cool cars on the track!"

The weights seem to be low, by about 200lbs.
    I looked up my 69' GP - 3713 lbs - no F'n way!
The shipping weight I have seen is in the range of 3900, and the AMA specs (which you get from PHS when you get the invoice based on the car's VIN) showed about the same.
My 68 H/O weighed about 3990 with my fat butt in it, so figure about 3770 without me - the list shows 3565. :Do No:
Can someone make sense of this? I could take out the AM radio, speaker, wiring, and antenna - what would that add up to be, perhaps 10 lbs? My Olds doesn't have any other options (besides being a H/O) other than a tach (but no gauges) and a tinted windshield, so how could one get the car DOWN to such a weight? No fuel?

Someday when I have money again, we will see if a 12:1 455 Olds can go together. That brings me to the next question:
How many of you would build to maximum compression, or build to "pump gas" and do non-stock upgrades to compensate? I know, I know, not truly stock - but easier to fuel.

There seems to be some concern over the new weight rule for Pure Stock. I think it's a good idea to have a minimum weight rule. I don't believe the weights are manipulated by certain car manufacturers (or NHRA). The weights listed in NHRA's classification guide were supplied by the car manufacturer to the American Automobile Assocation (AMA) when these cars were built. You can find any car model/engine combination's shipping weight in the NHRA classification guide (just scroll to the shaded area to the right). Listed are the factory minimum shipping weights less driver and any optional equipment (power steering, radio, etc.). I have some old NADA price guides that list AMA shipping weights and they are exactly the same as listed in NHRA's classification guide. For an example, I checked on the shipping weights of the current fastest PSMCDR Pure Stock car/engine combinations (based on a list previously found in this forum):

    1. '69 Chevy Corvette L88 cp 427/430HP/auto 3269 lbs.

From the NHRA charts, I can pull about 300 pounds out of my Dodge (not including driver). I wonder if I can retro fit a bench seat, column shifter, pull off all the stainless trim, and do the swiss cheese routine -ala Joel Nystrom......:Brow: :Brow:

The organisers dropped the NHRA compression because they "want to get away from NHRA, we want nothing to do with it"

Now they are using NHRA weight? :Do No:

Looking at several examples of NHRA weight there are big discrepencies.

Oh well, here we go again!
