Sandwiched Body Mounts

Well to throw in another issue, the bottoms of the CARS mounts will not fit properly onto one style of the Inline Tube cushions. I'm having to use the bottoms from yet another (3rd) brand of cushions that I had laying around.

Also, I'm using these on a '69 GTO and the '69 Pontiacs did NOT have a molded in washer. So the CARS lower cushions are not exactly correct for me either. Therefore I will be using large washers from the 3rd kit I bought from someone else.

So, long story short, I had to get parts from 3 places, plus bolts from Todd.

Also, there really is no need to buy the "deep dish" Inline Tube mount for the location under the doors. All of the CARS mounts in the kit I bought have a deep dish that will fit that location.

What CARS bushings are you trying to use ?

I purchased the CARS kit that is part # BMK682. It consists of 2 sets of solid mounts, one set of small diameter mounts (for the rearmost position), and 4 sets of deep dish center mounts that will fit even under the doors. All of the bolted mounts do include the lower cushion which has a molded washer.

Here is the CARS ad. This is a nice kit (BMK682) at a good price in my opinion.

Here are the two different Inline Tube cushions I purchased. Keep in mind my current project is a ‘69 GTO.

I will be using these small diameter pink bushings for position #7 because they have correct color, size, and exact part number for the rearmost position (exact match to my originals and also matches the Pontiac assembly manual). Probably not the right part number or color for a ‘69 Buick.

Inline Tube does NOT include a lower cushion. Expensive at $16/ea + shipping from their website or $22 with free shipping on eBay.

The black bushing is intended for use under the doors and has the deep dish. It has “TEMP” molded into the side like the original Pontiac bushing. It has a slightly smaller diameter than the CARS bushings. There is NOT a lower cushion included.

Both the Inline Tube and CARS bushings all work in the location under the doors. So if you buy the CARS kit, it works and there is no need to buy the Inline Tube “deep dish” bushing unless you are restoring a Pontiac and want the “TEMP” (for Tempest) molded into the side of the cushion.

This bushing shown is the Inline Tube part, but CARS works equally well in this location.

    Gary,
I think I have all the new lower bushings that do not have washers. I got them with a kit and did not use them because I ordered all the cars lower bushing with molded washer.

    Update.......

I removed the body from my chassis today and bagged and tagged each mount so I have a set of factory mounts for comparison.

I also received my Inline Tube order this week containing the first batch of there body mounts and core support mounts.

So at this point I'm just waiting on my order from CARS which I'm hoping will be here sometime this week. Once I have those I'll start putting some kits together along with photos!

As for my 70 Stage 1....... its frame off restoration has begun! This will be a purpose built - stock appearing Stage 1 That has already ran in the 11s. I have a brand new Stock Appearing motor which makes more power and more torque than the last motor. A new transmission is in the works also. Hoping for better 60 foot times, concours level restoration and low 11 second time slips! I'll update my Stage1Racing.com webpage as progress continues..........

I remember doing a frame off street car in 1985/6. 1969 GTO. It had the bolt next to the seat belt I think Buick does not. Only one to break off also. Buying NOS bushings in Brooklyn queens and Nassau where available.

    An update . . . .

Just waiting on the CARS order to arrive and these Kits should be all set. There are a few different Kits to choose from. Some with Bolts, some without. Some with Core Support Bushings included, some without.

There is also an option for the guys wanting to put Bolts in the # 4 Location rather than the Solid Bushings.

I'll post more photos once the CARS Bushings arrive (Some time next week) - Kits start at $195.00

How many sandwiched bushings are included? What about the ones in front of the axle that everyone replaces with a standard bushing and a bolt?

When I have this sorted out I am in for a kit

ah checked out the picture. Is it possible to have one sandwiched mount replaced by a regular with a bolt? I think most do replace the sandwiched one witha regular. Or do you advise against it?

Each kit gives you enough bushings to do the cars as the Factory did.

I do also have a Kit that is for the guys that want to use bolts and bushings in the # 4 Location. :)

    Gary,
    thanks for your info.
Cars now has a specific set for Buick but I think the only difference that I see is the core support bushings and $40 more.

When I researched these I found close to a dozen Kits that were listed for 1968 - 1972 Buick A body however most of these kits had the following issues:

    • Wrong Bushings in some way shape or form or,
    • Wrong Qty for our Buick's or
    • Wrong Hardware or,
    • All of the above.

Our Industry is notorious for marketing parts for these cars that MAY work but are not necessarily "Correct"

    Or

The part is marketed for our Buick's and it's simply a re-labeled "Chevelle" part that they hope the consumer uses regardless of how correct it is
or if we use the example of a well known Vendor in California that advertises there "Front End Sheet Metal" hardware kit for our Buicks when in reality it's a Chevelle Kit!
Which if any of you guys reading this fell for that you'll know exactly what I mean. You ended up using some of the kit because it was compatible with our Buick's and then the rest of the kit went in a bolt bin because it had nothing to do with our cars!

That by the way is one of the main reasons I got into the Bolt & Fastener business a few years ago. We were sick of relabeled bolt kits that were suppose to be for a Buick but only partially worked.

So moral of the story is just because it says its for our Cars doesn't mean it is correct. Some will work just fine. Some won't work properly. Some shouldn't be marketed as "Buick" at all.

    Todd,
yes I am very aware of people (company's) that sell products that do not fit. Unfortunately it happens but it is not just buick. The reason I figured this kit was good is since one of our forum members received similar kit and recommended it, that is about as good as it gets. Many of us went through kits and individual mounts and provided feedback to help with this problem.. The kit Cars sell still have hardware store bolts and that is why I did not post that one.
Your kits make it nice and easy one stop shopping..
