I am hoping to swap out my ST300 and throw in a new TH350 this weekend. I know it's a direct swap and I thought I had seen step-by-step instructions posted on the board before, but I cannot find them now. I used the search feature and scrolled the pages of this section and Wrenchin' Secrets, but with no luck. If anyone can lead me to the instructions, could point me in the right direction, or type it out, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

Everything bolts right in. driveshaft works, crossmember works( maybe a hole back ), barrel nut on speedometer cable threads up, your old shift linkage fits on the squared input shaft. (you'll probably need the nut from the TH350 shaft). Flywheel torque converter mount holes line up. You can re-use the hard line for the vaccum modulator with a new little bit longer piece of hose for the TH350 modulator hookup. You should be able to massage the cooling lines to mate with the TH350 hookups. (your luck may vary..)

The only thing I can't give advice on is the kick-down cable...
    (Its a kick-down in a TH350 and a Throttle Valve cable in a 200R4 ... right?)

All my solutions have been far too shade-tree to share with the class.

If you have a fourbarrel carb, you have some viable choices for the attach.
Honestly I don't know what year the gas pedal had the place to hook up the kick down.. is it 68?
there are several universal throttle and or transmission cable hookups for 4bbls.

Hope that helps.. or confirms what you already knew..

Thanks, Tom, that's what I wanted to hear. Any more advice is still appreciated.

as for attaching the kick-down cable to the throttle. Well I have a mickey mouse way that I did it. It worked but wasn't the most glamorous thing. I made a bell crank and bolted to the intake via the second intake bolt. I had attached the cable to the bottom of the crank and the carb to the top of the crank. It took some messing around to get the ratio correct. I already took mine apart but I could still snap a couple of pics if you would like.

    Good luck!

Todd, pictures would be awesome as I am not yet finished. I would also like to know how to adjust my two-speed shifter to handle the new gear. I know you guys have done it before so DO NOT BE STINGY with the information.

Right now the TH350 in mine uses the original column shift. So Drive is "D" and second is "L".
When the 200R4 was in it overdrive was "D" and drive was "L".
As a result I can't really get to the other gears. But most folks just put it in Drive and go..
    Well you get the point.
There is a kit that changes the detents and letters to make it right. Unfortunatley, I'm not sure who makes/sells it. Anybody? :Do No:

My solution was to eventually put a console between the bucket seats I have and use aftermarket shifter underneath.

For now I say put it in drive and go. :3gears:

I'm trying to get ahold of the digital camera I used to use. Hopefully this weekend I'll get those pics.
I use set up Drive on the TH350 to 'D' on the column shift and 'L' was second gear, then if you just continue shifting to the right past 'L' you'll have first. You should have enough movement left in the column shifter to continue past 'L'.
    Worked great for me.

    Good luck!

URGENT!!! Swapping this Tuesday and I was talking to my tranny guy and he (Chevy guy) asked if I needed a Chevy or Olds tailshaft. :Do No: I have no clue what I need. What do I need?

I've never heard any references to an olds or chevy tailshaft. Of course me stating that doesn't say much.
When I have gone to junkyards to get th350's. They have only asked three questions: "What bolt pattern?" (B.O.P. or Chevy) and "Long or Short tailshaft?" And last but not least.. "lockup or not".

You are going to want a transmission with the same length. That way you wont need to alter the driveshaft. You would want the "short" tailshaft TH350 giving you around 27 inches overall length.

For my part, I pulled the ST300 out of my 65 and put in a 200R4 from an 87 GN. Then I pulled the 200R4 to get rebuilt and put a TH350C from an 83 Regal. (the C is for lock-up, I didn't hook anything up I just needed to keep the car mobile)
The 200R4 with an integral tailhousing has an over all length of 27 and 11/16 inch. The same as the TH350 with a 6" tailshaft.
    Recently I replaced a metric 200 in an 85 Cutlass with a non-lockup TH350 from a 69 Pontiac.
My point being they all fit (with the exception of the lack of crossmember holes for the 200R4)
With all the interchangability you should have no problem getting the right transmission the first time.

So rather than ask for an olds or a chevy tailshaft, I suggest you ask for a short tailshaft, BOP non-lockup.
TCI's website has some good info too http://www.tciauto.com/tech_info/trans_dims.htm
I hope that helps some :Smarty:

The BOP TH350 should bolt right in with no mods. they are the same length as the ST300's and you can use the same yoke and driveshaft that you used with your ST300. You don't need any Chevy parts for it.
If they made a long shaft TH350 I wouldn't know, 'cause all the TH350's I've ever worked with were the same dimensions as the ST300.

What did your TH350 come out of and what year is it?

On another note, I will be able to checkout a digital camera from work tomorrow so I should have some pics posted by tomorrow night.

    Good luck!

:3gears: Thanks for all the help, it runs great.

What do I need to use for a dip stick tube? Is there anything that will fit, or does everything need to be bent?

:puzzled: Your not running it without the tube in place I hope.

I used the one my TH350 came with. clears everything just fine.

    Cheers

I actually plugged it for the first few days...and it leaked pretty bad. Today I finished fabbing something up and it runs like a champ. :3gears:
