I just re-read both articles, and I had to laugh cause Road Test writes of finding Motorcade's time slip in the glove box. Both tests were as a stock Stage 1

Wasn't it a 70 GS? I wonder why the car in the picture has a 71 front bumper and a 72 grille and hood nose?

    this is for us newbies
and the 71-72 red car is a mystery
and how much original parts are on the jones/benisek car? other than the factory hood and air cleaner that were supplied by buick

Yes, this is the original Magazine road test car.

A true factory built manual steering, manual brake, no cost standard straight bench seat, GS Stage 1 4 speed car with no vinyl top!

    Awesome ,my kind of car:grin:

The car was "updated" with 72 trim to stay within the classes it was racing in. Remember, this car has been a drag car since day 1.

That's also why there is a second instrument cluster mounted in front of the original. The class the car ran in required the original cluster remain in the car, it said nothing about mounting a second one over the first.

Well I'm glad it was restored with a 70 front end, but now wonder why they put a GSX grille emblem on it? :Do No:

Easy answer. Both the hood and GSX emblem were salvaged off of the original prototype car in Detroit, and sent to Jones & Benisek to install on this car.

No predictions, just my gut tells me that if the right guy is there, 200+. If not, who knows, but I do know that there is a reserve and it will not sell for the low end prediction, or it will be mine again. The history is well known by those who have followed the articles over many years, and it is a very important part of Buick high performance history. From being the magazine test car, to going directly, "out the back door" to J&B, becoming a very successful drag car in both Stage 1 and Stage 2 trim, and setting multiple National E.T. and speed records, it is impossible to find comps for a car with this history. My opinion is that it should be comparable to the best four speed Stage 1 GSX or Stage 1 convertible, and that is +/- 200.

It will take at least two "right guys" to get the price up. The "right guy" has to have someone to bid against.

Good luck with the auction! Awesome car and an amazing piece of Buick history.

The car has a serious & fresh Stage 2 race drive train in it. The right buyer for the car probably won't care, but I can tell you this, it will rattle the rafters when it is driven onto the block. As far as needing TWO right guys at any reserve auction, no comment.

I can see why you would think so. But generally this is not how similar drag car sales have played out in the market place.
