OK, I've got another transmission for my 71 GS 4 speed and the shifter linkage all works except for the fact that the threads on 3-4 lever is 5/16"-24 and my old transmission is 3/8"-16. My old back drive stud won't work. Does anyone know of a back drive stud that is 5/16"-24 or do I need to grind this one down and rethread it? It looks like there might be enough meat but I'm a little hesitant to grind this one up if one exists. Pics of threads on old stud and new bolt.
This stud looks right, maybe: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2709976590...QFGmdJjVYY9gxs9vzsx7MSMh3hL1URIMaAi7hEALw_wcB Check with Todd, maybe he can help. or call these guys: https://www.4speedconversions.com/
I've already checked with Todd and he recommended I check with them as well. There is a local place, called Diamond Screw that has all sorts off-the-wall/weird/unique fasteners and they had nothing close. So, I did what I am good at, F'ing it up! I ground it down and rethreaded it to the new 5/16"-24. It is not pretty but it works. My backup plan was to cut it off and drill a hole and tap it for a 5/16"-24 stud. A little Loc-Tite and it would be about as good as I could get without starting from bar stock. My frankenstein bolt.
No, my heritage is French, English and German but I know those poor Cubanos can make things last by hook or crook. That's what I already have. I don't think what I want exists without being a custom piece. My cousin says he can make one. He has his own machine shop. He made a cannon and a steam engine so I'm pretty sure he could make this piece if what I've done doesn't hold up.
OK, got it all mounted up and tested. Seems to be working as desired. We shall see how it acts once I get the motor all resealed and this swapped in.
Maybe this will work for you? https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...ud-for-an-autogear-trans.356663/#post-3056631
