What carb do u have, is it the ones that u can adjust the needle height from the top

No Adj that I know of. Stock factory Q jet that was worked by Ken @ Everyday Perf. What baffles me is that I ran this same carb at BG in the bracket 3 race and it didnt nose over then. Only difference is the addition of the choke.

So literally just the choke, nothing else no matter how unrelated to fuel or carb was changed?

If so, my first thought is to wire the choke open or disable it some how and retest. Eliminate the last change as the source of difficulty.

Sometimes just touching it is the problem.

Correct. Nothing else was changed or touched. I did replace the base gasket after the issue stated thinking maybe it wasnt sealing well after being removed and reinstalled. Made no difference. I could remove the butterfly again and see if it still does it.

That's probably not even a 800 com carb if its for that yr. that would be for a 430. Great off the line but lacking on the top end . You won't know till you get a bigger one. A 4MV TYPE is the best ones

I like the car just the way it is and have no plans for an upgrade. Once I get the issues identified and straightened out all will be well. I'll put my performance up grades into the Regal. Satisfies my need for speed!

We'll whatever carb u have ur obviously missing the choke pull off that mounts on the secondary side, You already have the plastic sec pull off which is good . To put the choke electric u need to remove the bushing . If u retained the mounting plate for attaching everything too I have attached an electric choke to those brackets before , but it will never work rite without a choke pull off behind it. It remains too bouncy without. The pull off holds the butterfly open nice and tightly. Almost the same as removing it.

not sure what you mean. Ken assembled it so im sure everything is there that should be. As for the carb not being big enough for the engine, it made over 400hp on the dyno with the same Q-jet and the choke installed (mechanical)

    Briz,
Quit Monkey Farting around  and check your fuel pressure. Just tee in a gauge and tape it to the windshield.

    LOL best idea yet!

Haven't done any investigating into this issue. car has sat for a few weeks. Yesterday I took it out for a ride and tried to duplicate the symptoms again and it would not do it. laid out several nice patches. Ran it up to full speed on a back road several times. Pulls strong as long as my foot is matted to the floor. Gotta love a self fixing car.

Got a rev limiter or any possibility the ignition was being flaky? When a problem heals itself, I start trying to figure out when it will leave me stranded somewhere when it returns with a vengeance.

No rev limiter. Full on MSD dist and the new style 6AL box. Less than 1 yr old. The old box would randomly cut off and I'd have to tap on it to get the car to fire again. I got it mounted on the inside of the front fender near the battery box.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Better off mounting MSD box in the car.

No where to put it where its out of site. It never sees any weather. only gets wet( barley) when I wash it.

Time to revisit this. Was driving the car a few weeks back and everything was fine. Just a leisurely cruise around town on a sunny winters day. Stopped at the store to get some grocery's for dinner on the way home and when I came out to the car it started then after about 10 secs died and would not crank over again. Lifted the air cleaner and there was no gas coming from the jets when I pumped the linkage. Figured the pump finally gave up the ghost. Got a ride home, hooked up the trailer and went back to load it up. Once home and unloaded I filled up the fuel bowl and she fired right off. Then let it run for 5+ mins and she didnt die so thinking WTH. Put it in the shop and covered it for a few weeks. Finally got the urge to drive it again, went out and put the new rebuilt stage 1 pump on it. re-did the fuel line (PITA) and got it running.Dropped the fuel tank and replaced the lines, they were soft enough to pinch closed with my fingers. pulled the sending unit to check the sock and inside the tank. all looked perfect. Drove it a few times but did not really get into it until yesterday. Did a couple of WOT launches and she fell on her face. Made a few cookies in a parking lot and same thing around 4500 rpm.
This morning I had a thought. What if its low voltage going to the MSD? When I put the carb and newly installed electric choke on it I tied into the hot wire that once fed the coil. Its the only switched power in that area. I also used that as a switched hot for the MSD box. Could the choke be pulling enough power to turn off the MSD at high RPM's? I could unhook the choke to test this once its warmed up and probably will. I know its only supposed to be 9V resister wire but how far back I dont know. Waddayas think?

Briz, the MSD gets it's power directly from the battery, not the wire that was previously connected to your coil +. That wire just turns the box on, nothing more. I think it is a bad idea to connect it to the choke wire. Take the time and run a dedicated wire to the choke. I would also check the rev limiter if your MSD is so equipped.

Correct. I do have a dedicated hot from the battery to the box and the old coil wire just turns it on. The box is a newer 6AL digital. I doubt it has the rev limiter in it and if it did I would have had this issue before the new choke was installed. I have limiters in the Regal for launch control as well as top end so I know what that would sound and feel like and this issue is not like that. Its more like turning off the key then once I pull my foot out it switches back on and runs fine. Thought for sure once I found and replaced the soft fuel lines in the back I'd have it whipped.

Tee in a fuel pressure gauge temporarily and find out where you fuel pressure is going when it noses over. Did you ever do that?

Would love to but this would require me to cut into the brand new shiny stainless steel fuel line before the carb.Really dont want to do that.
