I thought I was the only one who had crap luck like this!

Hope it works out for an easy fix Steve!

Thanks for all the information and tips guys. I will let you know what I find if anything. I plan on draining the pan tomorrow evening after work and dropping the pan Saturday in the day light. I think my car is doing this to get even with me for thinking of selling her. Things were finally working the way they should after changing my gas to a higher octane, increasing my carbs metering rods and resetting the timing. Thats why I call her Christine!

If you haven't already drained the pan, try to strain the fluid through a rag to catch any small bits that may wash out. Hopefully there isn't anything bad in there.

Moving the car around Saturday and before doing anything the transmission was working intermittently. That said I made the decision to get her over to my friends shop where she can be put on the lift, the fluid drained and an inspection made as to what’s going on. I almost didn’t make it as she got progressively worse. I don’t expect any answers real soon with Thanksgiving and the Turkey Run coming up (he repairs cars there).

Pan was pulled today and revealed LOTS of metal goop on the bottom. Unit is to be taken down then pulled apart to see what has been destroyed. This really stinks! I wish there was a way of getting the original rebuilder to fix the darn thing but all he had to say was that it is out of warranty. He offered to make repairs at a discount though! LOL

Now I need a new trans and a new torque converter

Not what I was waiting to hear.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

I wouldn't let that builder touch it again. His work obviously isn't up to what you are needing. You can probably have that converter cut and cleaned if you were happy with it.

    Me neither.
Someone suggested Monster Transmission in Brookville Fl for a new rebuilt unit or just a rebuild kit. Right now I'm till waiting to find out the extent of the damage.

I had a bolt come out on my TCC solenoid and kill hydraulic pressure and make all the shifts soft. When I dropped the pan there was plenty of evidence of wasted clutch material there. I tightened the TCC solenoid back into place, but the damage had been done, it doesn't slip, but the shifts are not firm either. I'd look for sources of a possible pressure bleed.

I used a Monster kit to rebuild my 200-4r, and if I don't just throw the old clutches I took out when I rebuilt it (they looked good..) I'll order a set from Monster again. My case was purely builder (me) error.

This is what I got back when I told the tranny shop that what they sold me blew up!

[TD="class: mainPanelComposeMailPadding3"]Steve ,you know as well as I do of course when you bring it to a Tranny shop they are going to tell you your trans is totally shot do you think they are just going to repair what is wrong or what has worn and then stand behind it ! They are there to make money . As I told you in previous email I would fix it for you at a discounted rate , there are alot of things that cause a Trans to prematurely wear and without seeing the unit I can not tell what happened but if one of my techs disassembled it we could tell exactly what caused it to fail
we have been in the same location for over 30 yrs. working on my 3rd generation of customers I am not still here because I treat people unfair ! If someone comes into my shop with a Trans that was built elsewhere I give them 2 choices #1 I can repair what needs to be replaced with NO WARRANTY #2 I can totally rebuild Trans and give you a WARRANTY ON THE WHOLE JOB / and also when we disassemble explain what we see caused failure . Your unit was a totally fresh rebuilt Transmission no shortcuts were taken but parts do fail and there is a cause why they fail . A good builder knows when he disassembles unit what cause was. There are all kinds of opinions in this business when it comes to automotive however very few are HONEST , you do have a choice who repairs your vehicle . We are here to help ,Danny

Seems like a standard business case response.

What damaged the case?!?!? Usually only two things I'm aware of that can really damage the case, one is true catastrophic failure of the rotating parts (which your's didn't sound like..), or by a solid or polyurethane transmission mount.

I didn't think so but I was told I had a catastrophic failure of the rotating parts and they were amazed I made it to the shop. Inside the core looked like everything went flying!

Hmm, typical TV cable mis-adjustment just eats the clutches from slippage. Sounds like you've exceeded the strength of some hard parts. Transmissions, if they are working good when first installed, then tend to continue to work the same for a long long time until some event causes failure. May not of even been the day symptoms started showing, but say you cracked the sun gear shell on another day, it would just be a matter of time before it would come apart. Of course this is just arm chair speculation on my part, as I don't know anything about the rest of the car or your driving habits.

Hmm, a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty is pretty generous.... I'd expect a 90-day warranty or less if they truly kick out substandard work.
