this guy i know has a 2 door electra that he says is bad and he gonna derby he says its got a sun roof how rare is that and is th car worthgtting fro him in a swap
Hey Gary, See if he will just cut the sunroof out and give/sell/trade it to you...he can then just weld some sheet metal to fill the hole. :TU: Those derbiers seem to love cuttin' and weldin'! p He keeps his derby car, you get the sunroof...then, you can give/sell/trade it to ME!!! :beers2: David
I have more experience with Caddies than Buicks, but the sunroofs are very rare in the big '70s rear-drive models. I would guess that this Electra is quite rare indeed. I know I would certainly love to have one with a factory sunroof!
Try to verify if its factory. As stated that would be very rare and a very cool find. I remember in the mid 90s at the shop putting Caddy glassroofs in just about everything. We would get them from the yards for a few bucks and "professionally" install them for a few hundred extra before paint on customers cars.
Thanks, Gary! This the original equipment, huge steel panel sunroof, not a glass one, right? I would love the opportunity to have one! :beers2: If you can get it without too much trouble and expense to you, I am a serious buyer for it. David
well i went to look at the car and when i first saw it i saw it was glass but then i got in the car and sure as crap its a FACTORY sunroof it has the sliding part that covers the glass when its beating down on you and its an electric motor that opens it. the car could be saved it will need a new truck and rear floor parts the roof is pretty good a it had a padded vitnl top i got picts on my cell phone ill try to post it had lead around the sunroof from whereit was put in
Thanks Gary, I will pass on the sunroof. I was hoping that Buick was not yet doing the glass moonroofs in '75 or '76. I want a steel one. I guess '74 was the last year for the solid type. Hope someone can use it...it is a good find. Thanks again for checking. David
here he put add on craigslist id dont show roof and I did not have time to go back out there mycell pic wont upload either http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1744275675.html
GM called it an Astroroof according to my book here. I have saved hundreds of pictures of Electras on my computer and I think maybe 1 or 2 of the cars has a sunroof or astroroof. I have pictures of a DeVille 4 door Hardtop with a non-factory sunroof installed. If you buy one you will be happy as the older big car special roofs are way bigger than the little tiny ones you get today.
who are you asking? From my understanding, the "astroroof" was a glass panel and a "sunroof" was a steel panel. I believe someone posted that 1975 was the first year that Buick offered a glass-paneled electric roof. I believe ASC did the roofs. They did the first glass panel moonroof for Lincoln on the 1973 Mark IV with the Silver Luxury group that had silver paint, silver leather interior, and a silver tinted glass moonroof. That doesn't mean that you would never find a 1973 Electra with a glass roof. They can be installed into most any car.
