Help! I drove through something that made my black running boards grey. What should I use to make them black again?

    Thanks Jim

    Jim,
you need to figure out what it is first. Paint, concrete slurry, etc. Need to clean it off first. Are they the plastic covered running boards?

Nelson, Thanks for the reply. I have no idea what discolored the plastic. I have cleaned them multiple times, tried Armoral type products and they are still faded and grey looking. I will see if I can find the stuff Sean suggests above. My running boards look like crap right now. Thanks for the suggestions

my wife used it on her Santa Fe that’s about 5 years old and it really brought the black back, before it was ugly greyish black everywhere that is plastic. Now it’s shiny black and it’s held up for 6 months so far with frequent washes.

Well, the Cerakote was a big disappointment as you can see in the picture. I need either a good plastic paint or stain to cover the discoloration on the running boards. I am also going to price replacements. Thanks Guys

You'll never get paint to stick to it now that it's had so much product applied,..essentially the Armour all,..that stuff is kryptonite to paint,..try any 4x4 shops that perform lifts,..they get pulled often once a truck is lifted

Did this happen all of a sudden or over time?
I think it’s been degrading for awhile and it finally turned grey.
Yep, like Hugger said, too late for paint with all that product on there, that stuff has saturated the plastic, no removing it:(
I’d try the truck shops, see if they do have take offs

  17. have you tried using a heat gun, Works well on my jeep fenders, just taxes some patients to do properly.
