Here is a link to the TH400 modification, if you are wanting to do it without buying any parts. Some good information here on other modifications, like double feeding, etc. For the TH350 it's done a much different way, but same end result:

i am having the same issue, i was told my qjet was not "set up" for a th350, he showed me how the "set up" on carb needs to have a push and pull movement at w.o.t., which would require additional "leg".... is this the bracket that you speak of? i have a buick 350/th350 and qjet 4bbl.

No, that is the bracket that mounts the shifter cable to the transmission pan. This thread deals with the detent cable. The detent cable controls the kick down function (passing gear). In the early 70's Buick Skylark/GS, the cable ran from the transmission to the gas pedal. In Chevies, it ran from the transmission to the carburetor throttle arm.

no those are transmission brackets, not the lower throttle arm you need.

I would be interested to see what you come up with. I have the same issue with mine. original was 300/2 speed (1967 Skylark)...now it's a 350/TH350. I converted from 2 to 4 barrel and I'm running a quadrajet too. The trans was out of a later 70's pontiac (I believe). So I have the cable that goes up to the carb and no where to hook it up.

Do these cable need to be adjusted to a certain spec, or can I just hook it up and go?

The cable should reach the end of it's travel at WOT.

For anyone who may wonder what the kickdown cable is doing, here is a picture of the inside of the TH350 from my 70 GS. The cable depresses the piston (pictured) when taught and returns automatically to position when tension is released.

The piston in the trans I replaced this unit with is not returning to position when tension is released which will require me to pull the new pan back off to investigate in the coming weeks. I thought an alternative cable set-up was the solution but it seems it isn't after all.

I never doubted you.:) But seeing is believing!

I thought a picture may serve someone else down the road.

Get yerself a gas pedal out of a 70-72 TH350 Buick, and a shift cable either used from a 70-72 TH350 Buick or new/repop from TA Performance and it's a done deal. Don't make mountains outta molehills .

The adjustment is not nearly as critical as the 700/4L60's and 200-4R's as it only provides forced heavy/full throttle downshifts and doesn't control line pressure for "normal" operation. It should be adjusted to provide full travel of the cable and fully depress the kick-down valve when the carburetor reaches full throttle, they really aren't that fussy.....Cliff

I know this thread is over a year old, but was wondering if anybody that got the kickdown taken care of had any pics to post. Some have recommended that I set mine up in my '64 Skylark like the Chevys because of a different type of accelerator linkage. It does not operate with a cable like the 70's do.

Or should I try to find all the gas pedal, throttle cable, and complete '70 stuff and change all the '64 linkage?

I have done like an earlier post (Grandpas67) with swapping from a 300-2bbl and st300, to a 350-4bbl and th350.

    Thanks

If you pay the door fee it's not totally stealing. At a wrecking yard if it fits in pocket it's free, you could also buy a door and fill it with carriers , ring and pinions. It's smart shoping. Knowing first hand how junk yards opperate , no shame or guilt necessary

    Hi,

I have the same problem with the kickdown cable at my '68 Skylark 350.

Could anybody post a picture of the original gas pedal mounted style? Is the gas pedal mounted style the original version?

    Thanks a lot!!

    Best Regards,
    Sebastian

Here you go. The detent cable has the rod with the clip on it. Buicks had it attached at the gas pedal.
