I have a TH400 hooked up to my 350, which is in a old hot rod. The problem is , at a stop or light, the drive train pulls real hard causing excessive braking to keep it from rolling. Is this a torque converter problem or possible modulator malfuction? Any other ideas?
    Thanks,

That could just be a symptom of a torque convertor with a low stall speed, on the other hand I wonder if you have enough vacuum to your brake booster?

    Just a thought.

My bet is the torque converter was designed for a heavier vehicle with a higher gear ratio than your Jeep. Bob, I bet he doesn't have a brake booster except for using both feet on the pedal!

Ask your trans guy to help you out with a new converter for your application, or buy and build a switch-pitch while you have it apart. A converter from a 64-67 skylark with a ST300 trans would probably be ideal for what you are doing. Just get the rest of the S-P parts that go into the trans. There's lots of info on building them if you do a search of this trans section.

You're right my brake booster is using both 9-D's at the same time while trying to remain seated!! The Willys is very light, around 2400 lbs and geared 3:73. Thanks for the advise will be looking for a different converter, any make recommended? TCI?
