    The Bandit's 87 Regal 307/Buick 350 Build

    Hey guys,
My name is Kai and this is my second Regal limited that I've owned this year. I seen a few 455 powered Regals and loved the idea, anyway this is where I'm at with this car. 307 with headers, intake manifold non-CCC all that stuff has been removed. Custom old school NASCAR dual tip side exhaust with flowmasters 2.5 dia. And jegster crossmember. I also have a 73 skylark 455 engine I need to rebuild as well not trying to build a drag car, just a good weekend worrior with about 450hp. I also have a 200r4 non BRF code that needs to be freshened up. Anybody have an idea what parts I would need to strengthen it to handle that power? Well enough of my novel here is the car.

Same here I need a trans but I'm feeling like building one is more expensive than buying one.

i end up even trading a th350 i had gotten with one of the engines for a 700r4 so im going to run it. plus i can use the caprice driveshaft and rear on this car. i think it will be fine behind the 350 with a cooler and a shift kit.

Sounds good I originally had an offer for $400 for a GN 200R4 trans that needs a rebuild but I snatched a regular 200r4 out the junk yard. I'm going to bring it back and just get the BRF TRANS. I have a TCI shift kit but it won't work for my th200.

Your going to like that 2004R, got one in mine.

If can, pick up a drive shaft and rearend from a Turbo Buick Regal , GN or T-type, it waill save you the hassel of fabbing a driveshaft , just bolt in a play.

Then pick up a Transmission crossmember, like from Summitt or like I did from www.crossmembers.com, designed to be a dual hump for dual exhaust, and fit a 2004R in a G-body.

With that you can mount the trans to the engine , and proceed to place the two into the Regal and set the trans into the crossmember, when the 455 is lowered in with the frame pads and engine mounts on, this helps locate where the framepads will sit on your engine cradle crossmember, when you happy with its location, and its centered and level, take a light colored rattle paint and spray those frame pads where they are sitting on the frame, remove eng/trans combo and what is left over is the " negative" of the locaation of where the frame pads will sit, and where the holes need to be drilled..( note:: none of the exisiting holes will work)

Hope this helps some.. it was passed along to me from someone here on the forum, work smarter not harder.

Good luck with the build...going to be a fun ride when you get it done.

    Thanks man,
I appreciate the help I'm trying to get 450hp out of the engine, would I need to get and hardened parts for the trans?

    The answer would be yes...

Trying to remember what was done to mine.
from my 86 GN,2800 Stall"REDSTRIPE" lockup torque converter(made my own lock up brakeswitch and a lock up 2nd and 3rd gear switch),10 vane pump, harden stator, "Blue Plate"kevlar clutches, wider 1st & 2nd gear bands. That was a few years back. Maybe even a deeper pan for more fluid , for better cooling and an extrenal trans cooler.

I know now there are billet "blow up proof" stuff that is out there for the trans, dont know if you need that or not for 450 HP. There used to be Bruce Toelle in CA, that had PTS transmissions, awesome products... cant seem to find info on them now. His heavy Duty stuff was in 9 second GNs and T's, it was billet and was under the XTREME line of his parts.

You might try Bowler Transmission in IL.. www.bowlertransmissions.com see what he offers. If you need HD stuff.

But make sure its a B.O.P. bellhousing trans, Buick Olds Pontiac, if you are getting a BRF no worries.

Go to www.bowtieoverdrives.com and pick up a T.V.S. made EZ kit (throttle vacum cable ) for what ever carb your running, follow the directions on how to set the cable legth for the carb to pull on.

If you do get the BRF code trans , go to www.americanautowire.com and pick up part#500412 for your torque converter lock up, its designed to be mounted outside the trans, and yet still uses PSI of the trans fluid to get the lock-up to engage.
The BRF trans were tested seperately from all the other 200r4 trans, because of their different intended use in a Turbo Regal, they all are "supposed" to have two ports that are just plugged off, they where the "TEST" ports from the trans was ran on the trans dyno. one of them is the PSI port that a PSI activated solenoid screws into, then ground & Power, and plug into trans. Boom baby ya got lockup and no need to wire in your brake switch.

    Hope this helps

unless hes swapping the 7.5 he can run the stock driveshaft he has.

Being on the east coast I wouldn't waste my time talking with anyone but Chris Kokonis ( www.ckperformance.com ). He will be able to recommend all the parts needed to survive behind any HP #'s you want. He pioneered the parts on the GN 200 trans. He can either rebuild what you have or supply any/all parts required + he has a book available with details and instructions on how to rebuild/upgrade yourself if you're inclined to do so yourself....

Ok quick update I'm at a loss, brand new distributor and its STILL STALLING!!! The only thing I can think of is that the TCC use to be Computer controled and its not anymore. It's a 200c trans what else should I check?

Only thing is computer controlled on a 200c is the converter. Shouldn't make difference on engine. Stalling usually is a fuel issue is start there.

Correct, I have fuel pressure and vacuum are fine I can't think of what else it could be.

will it run at all? or does it just stall at idle etc...

Yes it does I can get on it but seconds after that I feels like it gets no fuel after, it takes a little while to start back up again.
