What filter do you use inside the Quadrajet filter housing?

  1. 1) The factory 2 inch paper filter

    25.0%
  2. 2) The Marine mesh filter

    12.5%
  3. 3) No filter but I have an external filter between the fuel pump and the carb

    62.5%
  4. 4) No filter in the carb or between the fuel pump and the carb. I filter before the FP.

While we're on the subject of Quadrajets, I see some paper filters advertised with an anti drain back valve at the input side of the filter to keep fuel in the carb. Are they any good?

Gessler says filters with check valves are more restrictive. Read up top of this page,

I've always ran paper filters, I remove the drain back valve if the filter has one, looked like a restriction to me. I bought a few of those marine filters years ago, never tried them.

Years ago I put a electric pump with a -8 line from the tank to the carb, ran anywhere from 2 to 8 psi, even hooked vacuum to the regulator and tried 12psi at wot, always ran exactly the same, I don't think a q-jet cares what the fuel pressure is as long as its got fuel.

When I was having fuel volume problems the car would shut off at the top of every gear, it didn't just lay over or anything like that.

I once changed from 2.56 gears to 3.90 gears and went from 13.0s to 13.30s....wasn't breaking up but was running out of fuel....put an electric fuel pump on and immediately went 12.70s. Needed less fuel to run the 1/4 with the 2.56 gears.:rolleyes:o_O:D
