The right radio control knobs?

After getting my 1970 AM/FM radio upgraded I installed it the other day and noticed that the volume and tuning knobs are different looking and one is shorter than the other. So, is this right or should they both be the same. If so, which one is right for the 70-72 radios?

IIRC, there was a thread awhile back (time has been crazy but maybe 1-2 years ago) that sorted this issue out w/the different knobs.

My ‘68 has the early style knobs and they’re really close to the face and a little awkward to turn if pushed all the way on. I can guess that a few things from ‘68 were changed for the better in ‘69: hood hinges and heater controls for instance.

That definitely answer my question. 69-72 cars come with the longer knobs with the black end. Thanks, guys.

Anyone got a longer knob they'd like to donate to the cause?

Anybody have any metal retainers laying around that go on the knob ? I need one.

Ray if you look in the hole on the knob there is a little retainer inside then holds it to the shaft the radio.

Wasn't there a speaker fader with 3 pins that plugged into the right side shaft on some radios? That might account for a shorter knob on that side.
