After reading a few posts about DIY a/c repairs, I thought I'd share this. I made this evacuator pump from an old refrigerator compressor. I've had this thing for over 15 years and heck, it's older than I am and it works great. She pulls down to 29.5" of vacuum. I got the brass fittings from a friend in the appliance repair business and just soldered them onto the pipes. I just squirt in a few drops of oil every now and then to keep her happy. One side note.......I can also attach this thing to bleed brakes through a seperator jar........and it will also pump pressure over 300 PSI! You can even fill tires and baloons with this thing. I know she's very crude, but this thing works great and I certainly can't complain about how much it cost....
Way to go:TU: :TU: . Just goes to show that even if we think we don't have what we need, a little creative thinking goes miles. :gp:
My father used the same thing for years... but never for a vacuum.. never thought of that... but we would blow up anything you could think of..tires... baloons..etc. It worked great
