picked up this aftermarket V6/350 timing cover a few years ago at fall LV swap . $45 - sure . looked new , in box , just cover , no part number info . seems to match up ok .
started prepping it - checking gear kit/distributor fit , deburring some flash , grabbed some 1/4-20 studs for the water pump , opening up the oil feed hole etc . cleaned 'er up good and shot it with some clearcoat .
front crank seal opening size (OD) looks to be 2.640 . checking through my national seal catalog that number does not come up . tried a couple seals by '75-'85 buick V6 and SBB applications .
    #710162 - 2.755" OD
    #471869 - 2.686" OD
    neither fit - too big . didn't bother ordering #473459 - 2.690" OD
    ---------------------------
had a used #471424 ( 2.623" OD ) . fit nice into OEM cover to replace rope seal but a hair too small for this cover . if worse comes to worse i found some .011" shim material i can shim/seal around the seal and then stake it ?
    part numbers ? ideas ?
    ---------------------------
i guess only other option is order a new dorman etc cover ( comes with seal ) .
good - bad aftermarket choices ?

yeah - goes in from front .
after you mentioned that - did call TA . they had a national number for oem cover seal - too small OD . no info for aftermarket cover .
i mocked up install using 3 of my shims and the old 471424 seal - seemed real tight ( had a hell of a time removing it ) and should be centered ok with 3 or 4 shims spaced evenly i think .
should be ok with some RTV around lower inner edge and shims , then staking it .

I think that would make me to nervous. Are you planning to use some kind of sealer as well?

If you can wait til I get home from the Nats, I can check some replacement seals I bought years ago for the aftermarket timing covers that I used on my GN. I remember something about it not being a common part number. I know I ordered a couple and I'm sure I may still have a few.

Wiped a few cam lobes in the early 2000's on my GN before it was known that the oil manufacturers took most of the zinc out of the oils.

Anyway, I'll check the part numbers Sun or Mon after I'm home.

Btw...do not try to buy a seal that uses that 710613 number that is imprinted on the seal in the pic I posted. It comes up as having an O.D. smaller than 2".

The number that is on the seal I posted is B231-710613. I believe it may be a Silver Seal number only and doesn't cross reference to another brand. But not sure on that.

    ok , good info . i'll try crossing the #6573 also . maybe ?
and i'll dbl check the #710613 also . don't know why that'd be 2" OD , sure looks like a national number .
thanks for the info and effort . appreciate it .
    will let ya know .
    how was BG ?

BG is always a good time!

I know that I bought the seals direct from Silver Seal years ago. I do have several extra. Not sure what they charge for shipping on about a $3.00 seal, but if you find it's outrageous, let me know, I could send you one of my extras, if you don't mind it being old, but still sealed up new in a plastic bag.

Edit...it's listed on their site as a seal for the Buick 231 timing cover, but it's the same cover for the 350. I believe the timing pointer is different between the two.
