Probably a noob question but is the trans cross member for a th350 the same as a th400? If math is correct the piece should sit back 3 and 15/16” for the 400, as that is the length difference between the bell to mount dimension. However, the frame bolts dont completely line up with the holes. Well, the front ones do but not the rear.

I am getting ready to box the rails and want to mark out the correct position now. Altereation of the X member is easier now than when body and trans are back on.

Also, is this the correct orientation of the X member? The bolt holes are nearly centered to the frame mounting holes - I can’t remember how it faces! image.jpg

Th400 goes in the rear most hole, it will obviously place the other one where it has to be and yes the orientation is correct

OK that is 4 and 3/4“ back from the original 350/350 position. But all frame to X member holes line up. Maybe the big block trans mating surface sits back a litle further than the SBB.

I did not hear an answer to “same cross member for SBB and BBB?” I dont want to assume this

It's the same except for an oblong hole for the parking cable to pass thru on the th400 xmember, otherwise the same part, nevermind the measurement just use the last hole that automatically puts it where its supposed to be with two empty holes under cushion, and no the engines sit in the same location at the back be it big or small block
