I'm replacing the little rubber o-rings on a '71 th350 and while I'm under there thinking of replacing the TCS sensor. Is it necessary to have or can I remove and plug up?

If you are running the rest of the TCS, then you need that gear sensor. If you have eliminated or bypassed the TCS then you can do without the sensor in the transmission.

All it is, is a pressure switch. Even the Concourse guys disable the system while maintaining the visibility. Just leave it there.

Really was just going to replace before it leaks like the nearby connections. I was reading the manual and it says some engines may run hot while extended idling with that system so they added the thermo vacuum switch to some engines to add timing. My engine has no thermo switch.

That's because they were timed at 4* BTDC with no vacuum advance. That is retarded timing, and tends to make the engine run hot. The thermo vacuum switch would switch to manifold vacuum for the vacuum advance at 220*. That would speed up the idle and advance the timing at idle to cool the engine. If you have the proper curve in your distributor, you run at least 12* at idle, you don't need a TV Switch. It was a band aid.
