Dupont 7500S ChromaClear (which is being phased out and replaced with 7900S) I don't like it as much as the 7500, but..... As far as polish stuff....3M..start to finish. Oh...the base coat is Chromabase. It's not so much the paint, or the painter...it's the proceedure. PPG is good too...so are alot of other paints, I just use Dupont. It works for me. :TU:
OMG, it's ready to be picked up. Darren sent me these shots today. I'll be picking up the car on Monday if it doesn't rain. WOOOHOOO....
Ok, here's 1 more Darren sent. This is one awsome pic, my car and Bo's (BevoBo50 on this board) '70 Skylark. He started a thread on his car here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=95009 EDIT corrected spelling (peeve)
The car looked outstanding Harry, can't wait to see it cruising around soon!!!! Now if we can just get all of these rechromed bumpers back up here!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH I love it,... NICE WORK! Now I want to get started on my project. I'm getting my keyboard all wet from drool.
Beautiful Wow the car looks flawless. Im using all of the advice to improve on my body work. Quick question. Has the car been clear coated? Or is it just color sanded and polished black paint?
I'm almost laughing, but it's clear coated. You can't color sand base coat. Well, you can do what they call "nib sanding". But base coat has to be clear coated. You might be thinking of an old myth of clearcoating a single stage paint to try to achieve some superior type of look. I never tried it, and it isn't recommended. If you want a superior look, put an extra coat of clear on it, and color sand the crap out of it. Works for me :beer
:TU: cheers, clearly its evident that ive never done this before But i was told that even with the base coat on, you have to do a bit of sanding for the clear coat to adhere to the paint nicely, and evenly. I guess i got the impression, that you never put on a clear coat from that. o No: Anyways, thanks the car looks great.
I suppose some base coats would require sanding. The stuff I use can be cleared w/o sanding, if cleard within 24 hours. I don't like waiting more than 2-3, but after 24, sanding is definately requires. Most product labels will tell you basic application info.
Harry, how PSYCHED are you!!!!!! Any more progress on that bad assed lookin 72 Stage 1????? Darren, thats some sweet work your doing there!!!! Keep the pics coming!!!!!
Johnno, Let me tell you the suspense is killing me. The weather here was pretty sh!tty all week. Today was nice, and I almost took the day off to go get it, but since I told Darren I would be there Monday i'll just wait. The bad part is the bumpers are still two weeks from being ready. Ahhh, I guess that'll give me enough time to put all the stainless back on it, and get the letters on the tires turned back out. Can't wait to lay down some fresh rubber on Airstrip Blvd... :3gears: Harry
Ok here we go, today was pickup the car day..... so here we go. Started out when I went to pickup the trailer at Uhaul, noone there. Luckily I had the guys phone #. Called him up and he said just leave me a note with your name yadda, yadda, yadda and we'll take care of it when you return the trailer..... This happened about 40 miles out on the way..... flat tire on the Suburban....
After a lengthy drive and behind in schedule 45 minutes due to the flat, I arrived at Darrens. And laid my eyes on the GS.....
Here's the man Darren himself, owner of Xtreme Paint and Body. That finger pointing must be the universal symbol for Ford s*cks  Is that correct Darren ? J/K.....
After helping Darren install the belt mouldings and the door glass, we loaded her up and we're ready to go.......(no sweat, easy trip home before dark)...Oh did I mention that the 'running lights' on the trailer didn't work yet? That's why i'm trying to get home before it's dark......
