Awesome story Jason! I'm glad to hear everything worked out for you and the deal went through. I guess this car is like the point you are in your life, on to the next chapter.
Here's a quick $3.87 fix! On the way to dinner last night I swung into my local Ace hardware and picked up 9 phosphate coated trim screws for the glovebox liner. Someone put chrome ones in there- I replaced them all and adjusted the door and latch. Factory correct now!
Gas pedal is out. Honestly, why would you brush paint the gas pedal assy? And the pedal must of been replaced with one of those early repros thst were smaller. I cleaned up an original to replace it More fun with paint stripper....
Hood inserts are out. Cleaned them up and gave the grills a light coat of Sem trim black to freshen them up a little Digging through my fastener collection to replace a few missing screws...
To give you something to do. You know you love it. Is that the old school stripper, that Methylene Chloride based stripper? Be careful with that stuff, it's nasty.
Texted Duane about the glove box liner screws. He doesn't remember, says it's been too long. The plot thickens.
Jason, Now that you have the scooped out, can you please take pictures of the screws and fasteners for the scoops and the seal plates please? I have to put the correct ones on the GS 350. Thank you
OK, I just looked in my original “Buick” interior trim screw hoarding/containers and the only screws I have that would be used for the glove box liner are chrome. The only “phosphate” coated small interior screws I have look like they were the ones that screwed the plastic dash bezel to the steel dash. So going by that, I would figure they were chrome. Duane
I have four cars in my shop with original glove box liners: Two 1970 cars have chrome screws. Two 1972 cars have black phosphate screws.
I parted out several cars and they were always black. Go figure....I like em black so Gas pedal is cleaned up and detailed. Luckily, the silver wipes right off with acetone. That was a plus
My unrestored ‘70 GSX built in April ‘70 has chrome screws for the glove box. My unrestored, late production’72 (July ‘72) has phosphate.
Maybe they used chome in 70 and phosphate in 71, 72? I always seemed to get 72 and 72 parts cars so...
