Hey guys. I just had me a can of SEM spray paint made in red to match my interior. They also sold a spray can of something to aid in the paint adhesion but it was $40 bucks. I will be painting some plastic trim and then maybe a black to red dash pad, both new parts. Do I need to do any special prep or buy any type of primer spray? Is so what and where? Thanks
You’ll want to use a wax and oil remover/ prep like SEM PREP SEM solve https://www.amazon.com/SEM-38373-So...t=&hvlocphy=9033458&hvtargid=pla-569034111726
Clean with Alcohol,..apply MIST coat of the promoter then go straight to paint,..xont let the promoter sit more than a few min at most b4 topcoat
Dash pads don’t need adhesion Promoter if paint is lacquer based. I’ve done several. Dash paint must be O gloss as in flat. You are making a massive mistake if it’s not flat. It will glare like hell. Poly plastics like kick panels DO need the promoter. Consoles and other hard plastics don’t need any promoter with lacquer. Don’t use any enamel paints on plastics
Adhesion promoter certainly won't hurt when using lacquer,....I myself don't use spray cans,...being a professional auto body and paint tech with a mixing service I use solvent based base coat,..used as i described above,..you can't scratch it off if you tried,..but if using spray cans yes absolutely use lacquer,..biggest thing is a very clean surface and a light first coat to grab the others
