Hi all, hopefully I am posting this in the right section. I am interested in putting a vinyl top on my 70 GS and wondering how involved this would becon a car not originally equipped with one. This car should never see rain again so not concerned with rust issues. Also, would I be better off finding some original trim pieces?? Thanks in advance for any help.
I think you should think about both how to do it (as you asked) and what the downsides are. Even done 100% right, you still hurt the value (especially if it’s a big block car). Not only will it make the car more susceptible to rust, you’ll also look a while to find a buyer who prefers an added top to a factory slick roof car. It’s not like changing a funky color combo for something more coherent. And all that’s if it’s 100% ‘right’. If done wrong, you may really regret it. Patrick
i love vinyl tops you can put stuff youre holding in your hands on top of the car when you have to use your key to open the door without fear of scratching the paint
The factory did, and ironically they charged significantly less for painting the roof a different color (with all the finish work and masking) than the vinyl top which was less work. Patrick
