What Rear Control Arm Bushings is Everyone Using?

1st, I cannot believe Moog doesn't make these anymore. Does anyone have an old Moog catalog & could look up the part #?

2nd, I don't trust the repro parts (Parts Place, Cars, Inline Tube, etc.). Unfounded? Maybe Kanter? Haven't checked. I have a bad feeling the stuff won't hold up.

I probably trust the $9/pr. "MAS" (assuming Xhineze) brand on Rock Auto slightly more, but not much. Rock Auto also lists AC Delco (prob. also made in Xhina) for $20 & it's not clear whether that's for one or a pair. If a pair, might have to go that route - Maybe my wholesale account @ NAPA would be better.

I also don't really want to use urethane, Del-A-Lum. etc. on this car but if there was one that looks stock I'd consider it.

I should probably check the other A-Body sites too - I think they're the same bushings.

Moog K-5161, used in upper and lower, 1964-70.
This is from the 1983 Moog catalog for '1970 & Prior'.
They're still listed on several of the supplier sites I checked, about $20/pr.

I recall the old ones used 'Harris Silent Block' rubber..... I even had some off-brand bushings that used that rubber.

The Amazon page says the Moog bushings are made in China.
Maybe look at Raybestos, NAPA, or Carquest? red or blue series which used to by made by a US manufacturer.

RA shows the Moog K5161 for the upper or lower, for the 69 and 70 Skylark. Is that the bushing in the rear end housing too?

Yes, catalog shows one 'kit' per arm. One kit is a pair of bushings.
Only 1964 rears used a different bushing in the rear housing.

Awesome, that is what I thought. With this thread, y'all scared me into purchasing a couple sets for the upper rear of the GS400. I was going to hold off until I was ready to buy everything in one shot (boxed arms, springs, and bushings). Thank you!

Interestingly, RA does not show the Moog part for GS or GS 455, only Skylark, hence this tbread. I should have checked Skylark. Still not crazy about them being made in China but...

Thanks for all the info guys!

Dano, I run Urethane all around. I don't mind as they tighten up the ride.
Is someone going to be crawling under your car to look?

Craig from mobile parts probably has enough USA made bushings on hand to float a battleship

I had urethane (front & rear) on my last car I built ('70 GS 350 4-sp) & was very happy w/how that car handled. It also had a bigger front anti-swaybar w/urethane bushings. I'll probably run them on the next 350 4-sp project although I'd like it to be m/l stock appearing.

The ones I need now are for my '70 Stage 1 4-sp which I'm leaving pretty much stock - It also doesn't have F-41 &I'm not inclined to add it so not sure how much urethane would help as far as handling. Neither of my 350 GS's came w/F-41 either buy I'm more inclined to add it to those cars.

Did you check with Todd at Stage 1 Restoration? He might have a line on one that factory appearing stock and good quality.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I also am running the "energy" branded Urethane. I like them, but no, they do not look original.

Correct, Moog book shows 66-70. These would be round. Some years had oval bushings?
    2 bushings per 'kit'.

I was going to buy the Moog rears ($19+) once I realized they weren't discontinued but RA also had Mervotech ($12+) in addition to AC Delco ($20+). I figured all were Made in Xhina although I did get a pair of Moog 5385 springs from RA recently that were Made in USA (I wish Co's had to list Country of Origin online). Mervotech is a Canadian Co. & had really good reviews online to I figured wtf, I'd try them and save the ~$30. Haven't installed them yet but they sure look to be nicely made.
