What wheels are best for my '65 skylark convertible?

I have some custom wheels on there now that are
ok, but I need tires. I will restore the car, so I think I want
rallye wheels. Will all rallye wheels fit on a '65, or do I need special "early" ones. Is 14" ok, or should I go 15"?

I could also go with steel wheels, as I have the original hubcaps in the trunk. Hubcaps look cool.

any ideas? I need to get this figured out so I can get tires and drive the car. Thanks!

    wheels

if the bolt pattern is 5 on 4 3/4" , then any of the 14 or 15" buick rallye rims should fit . personally , i would run the black original style rim with the hubcaps or find a set of cragar ss wheels .

    Wheel for 65'
Josh the 65 buick has a different offset than other Buicks.
In fact Buick had about three major offsets that I know about.
I think the 65 has the deepest of them all. This is important for
tire clearance and bearing wear and pulling to one side of the
other. The 65 had 14' wheels and I think the code is JJ, but I am
not sure as I have tires on the rims. I may have an old rim
somewhere on a shelf, I will look later. Find old ones and have them rechromed, they will look great with the caps.

I have a set of Rallyes on my '65 Lark. They look great! Don't know about the offset, as they were on the car when I bought them, but the car doesn't pull or anything and they look perfect.

Oh yeah, they're 14 inchers with 225/70R14 tires.

I think aluminum torq thrust wheels would look excellent on an early skylark body. I have a set of 14x7 torqs for $200 if you want them. Thanks, Kevin

I recently put a set of repro rally wheels on my 65 that I ordered thru Jegs. They were ver reasonably priced and Jegs doesn't charge shipping. I got the repro center caps from Mitch Romanowski and they are flawless. Personally I love to combo. You be the judge.

    Matt,
Seeing your '65 makes me want to take mine out for a drive...too bad it's up for the winter. Could you tell me exactly where you got those center caps and, if it's not too personal, how much they cost? Thanks!

    Hi Aaron,

As I mentioned in the earlier post, I purchased the wheels from Jegs (800-345-4545) and I think they were $110.00 each.
I bought the centercaps from Mitch Romanowski Design. This guy (Mitch) belongs to the Buick Club of America and reproduces these caps from his house. They are amazing! In fact the centercaps that you can get thru Year One are Mitch Romanowski caps. Unlike the originals, he has designed a new retaining design so that they bolt on from behind rather than clip on as they used too. I think the complete set was a little over $200.00 shipped. I know this might sound like a lot, but I can't stress enough how impressed you will be. I got them as a Christmas gift last year and almost didn't want to put them on the car. He makes the Skylark caps with the birds as well as the tri-shield caps for the later models.

    Matt,
Thanks for the info! I've got the rallye wheels and the tri shield caps on the car, but I love those red background Skylark caps! I might have a birthday present idea... Thanks again for the info...love your car!

I agree on fat rear tires!!!...I ended up puting 245-60X14's on the rear, and 205-60X14's on the front. I whacked one coil, and the stance is awesome...It will probably go to the paint shop next week, them I can post some pix....
I checked into the Jegs repros, and they are WAAYYY too pricey for me...
