Who's Building What or Racing What in '08?

Let's get the bench racing going for '08 (corrected from '09 per Donny).

We are building a new SD 455 engine for Paul Aragona. Taking it closer to the max this time.

Have a RA III just about finished for a '69 RA III 4spd goat and will be dynoing this spring.

Dan and I dyno'd the SC/Rambler motor back before Christmas. I brought Rich Rinke along and he was so excited we have a motor going together for him. He will be racing his 13K mile Scrambler this fall with us. Incidently both SC/Ramblers are B scheme's and are VIN'd 429 and 430! We will both be racing them at Stanton. It would be great if they qualified together like the two SC/360's did two years ago. My motor went in the car this week.

I will finally break out, do to Benoit's yelling, the Boss 302 and race it at Martin.

Rumor is the Canadian contingent from East Lorne have a RA IV motor redo.

For the Martin race we are building a 455 HO GTO for Ron in IL. Ron is Jody's best freind and has shown up to the races to watch in the past. He's hooked.

We have a new car to break out for Larry this fall. It is done but he want's to race the LS6 Vette one more time at Martin. He wants that elusive 11.999 pass. We spent some time with it over the winter maybe he can, maybe.

Anyone else doing something special or an upgrade?

I need someone to tech my GS to make sure it is able to race in the form it is in. Found about 10 ET slips from two years ago in the ash tray. 14:17 was the best one I had found. Looks like I have a lot of work and learning before I'll make a pass. I would be embrassed with that time, with the other Stage1 spec cars running 12:70's to 13:10's. I'd like to aleast be in the ballpark. Jim

    Stop that Jim..........

Do not worry about anything anyone else is running. Sure, you can compare your car to others like it, but you will learn alot by just bringing your car out and running it, plus the pits are full of very knowledgeable guys who are full of free advise.

You start out with what you have and the number you run, and by the end of the event you have experience and a lot of tips to get the car to where you want it to be.

I started out thinking like you, and all I ended up doing was building a car that needed a lot of work to undo what I thought I needed to do.

Come for the fun, and then stick around to improve your times, there is no minimum speeds :)

Since my previous race association is now defunct  I should have a bit more time in my schedule to come and visit you guys.

Besides that, I am planning on hitting several of the NMCA events, a few Royal Pontiac days at Milan (for testing) and anything else that strikes my fancy...

The first thing you have to realize with PSMCDRacing is that no matter how fast you run, you will be matched up with an identically fast car. You will then have the three best fender-to-fender races you will ever enjoy. Doesn't matter if you're turning 17's or 12's. The fun factor is the same.
The amount of your seat time gained on Friday is helps you greatly come Saturday's heats. I started out in 2001 qualifying at 15.22 and had my best year in 2005 with a 13.89. Each year was just as fun at the next. Each year I learned something different. I can almost safely say the same goes for all participants. It's why we keep coming back every year. Look at the signatures of a lot of the racers here on the V8 Buick board. Look at the progress they made over the years. Lots of practice, lots of tuning, lots of learning, and lots of fun!:TU:

    What Donny said.
I started out with the Silver Slug in '05 running a problematic 14.70's if I remember right. Come to find out that I only had the center 2bbl working. Carbs went to Tom Cannon after the race and he found and fixed the problem (thanks again Tom:beer ). Came back the next year and ran consistent 13.3's and had a great race against the SD455 that Mark mentioned in the first post (door to door action:TU:). Last year I was back running the same 13.3's and even though it wasn't as close in the racing action I still had fun. I bring my oldest boy along and now he wants a Duster to join in the fun. I couldn't ask for a better bunch of guys and gals to hang with and let my boy see the fun we have.

It's not all about how fast you run compared to other cars similar to your own. It's about the fun of racing somebody very nearly equal to you. It's about the people you'll meet, absolutely none of whom are sane. And it's also about seeing more muscle cars in different colors and shapes and varieties than you can imagine. I have raced for over 40 years, and NEVER had as much fun racing or :Brow: being razzed, as this. Maybe it's about the verbal abuse! :puzzled: :puzzled:

Jim, I'll be more than happy to check your awesome car out for you, and if it makes you happy, I'll even offer to run it down the track a couple times to make sure everything is up to snuff:pray: :TU:

Tom...Would you hot lap it three times for me. I figure I need that much time to get those beautiful 15" SS wheel off you car and hide them away for future use. I think what Donny said makes alot sense. I'll plan on running it like it is plus what ever mods needed to run. Then work on the rest as I learn. Could be a slow process as I've been called a stupid SOB many times.
    Thanks all.....:beer ......Jim

I'll have a fresh Olds 350 build, ready for break-in by easter. Hoping for mid 12s, but we'll see what happens. Any of you MI fellas going to make the B.O.P. races at Great Lakes dragway on June 1st? I doubt my car will be finished that soon, however. I'm shooting for Jun 1st, but most likely it will just be Byron, IL 1st week of Sept.

Jim my offer still stands to help you out. I believe I PM'd my cell to you a while back. Also do not forget the articles on PS setup in High Performance Pontiac magazine start next month. The second article the following month will help you out more as it is a chassis setup item. In combination with articles and some time spent with some of us you will have a fun time and a nice running S1.

Also much of the ET the best cars turn is from the experience the drivers have. PS cars need to be thoughtfully driven not just tuned. The best drivers are getting a lot of there low ET from themselves not the car. It takes a few trips down the track to be dialed in with bias ply's.

Not me. If I get out at all that weekend, it'll be to St. Louis for the Nostalgia Muscle Car meet. Probably as dependent on diesel prices as it is on the weather.

Got a feeling that the fuel costs (gas and diesel) will put a damper on lots of people this summer that normally would go to remote (for them) meets. Gas will probably come down by then, but I think diesel's just going to continue to go up and up to make sure they don't get too popular........again. Gov't, big 3, and tree huggers all in sync on this one.....that really spells disaster. None have done much right in a long time.....if ever.
