Just looking to make sure my turbo BB Stage-1 Turbo 400 trans is working properly. When I had car running I was never able to manual shift at wide open throttle from 1-2. Engine would just keep reving until I let off gas which I believe it should not do. The few times I tried it I shifted low about 4500 RPM and nothing happend until I let of throttle. Once past 5000 RPM you get a bit nervous. Trans was rebuilt a few years back with B +M Shift kit and not many miles on rebuild. I may have friend take it apart this winter and was wondering what to look for

    Dave,
When you go WOT, the governor determines where it will shift, even if you manually shift it. It should shift immediately as you let off though. The BB's commonly shifted at 52-5300.

Thanks Larry, But should it not shift right when you move the lever no matter what RPM. All the years I owned w-30 Olds which were OW trans which are pretty much the same as BB always shifted immediately when you popped the dual gate lever forward even with foot to the floor without letting up.

It will shift if the valve body agrees with you. It won't if it doesn't, but it should shift when you let up on the gas.

Ever check out the valve body diagram in the service manual? Mass confusion especially in 71. It shows different items in the body for BB and OW. The diagram list shows a spring ommitted on BB only but in the text it says to use it on BB. Text shows BB and OW to be identical but diagram is a bit different. Those valve bodies are black magic as far as I am concerned. I had mine apart years ago and was glad when it went back in.
