I have a 1962 Skylark 215 automatic that is starting to slip. I have a good 1967 Special V8 with 2 speed tranny- will 67 2 speed bolt in and work?? I figured both small block Buick V8s- is this feasible or gonna need different crossover, different drive shaft will bolt up to block???? Any thoughts appreciated Mike L.
Nope, not without an adapter plate at the very minimum. And probably some tunnel enlargement. The 215 motor has a one off bellhousing pattern. It's not shared with any other GM pattern. Your not the first person to be in this situation with that tranny. Your not the only one in this situation currently either from what I've heard in another group. There are options but none are easy or cheap. Keith
Not good news Appreciate the knowledge. What about rebuilding the slipping tranny. Are parts available??
What would really make that little car fun would be a manual transmission swap. They came with optional 4 speeds
From what I've heard it sounds like there is rebuild parts/kits available for the 215 dynaflow (dynajunk I call them) tranny. Then comes the fun part lol. You have to find someone knowledgeable and willing to work on that special gem lol. Cause not to many people have the knowledge. Those trannys are not liquid cooled, they are air cooled. They have nothing in common with any other tranny. Keith
Keith thanks for the information. I do have a transmission guy capable of rebuilding it- question is if he wants to get into it.
