I'm thinking about grabbing the compressor off of a '73 Estate Wagon at a yard to put on my '71 that is missing the compressor. I need a core. I know they switched from or to a POA valve between the years but I want to be sure it will work. Also does it matter than my Electra has automatic climate control? Thanks in advance, just want to be sure.

I thought the POA valve was introduced in the 60's.:Do No:

I'm 98.369% certain that in will not matter if the car has the automatic, or manual climate control. The compressor is basically a pump, which operates with a simple on/off switch depending on demand for cooling.

No, do not use it. In 72 they introduced the super heat compressor. You should use 71 or earlier. Not realy trying to make a sale but I have extra compressor from a 70. Should be rebuilt however as not sure if clutch turns. $25 if interested but the thing is so heavy probably costs that much to ship as well.
