Just making sure that with a th400 too much teams fluid would simply overflow and blow out the seals or anything, is that correct?

And what do you guys use for keeping the trans clean? Seafoam trans tune or anything like that?

Over filling an automatic is not good. It can cause the fluid to foam and burn the clutches. At least that is what I have been told by transmission shops in the past.

Thanks guys. I'll have to check the fluid levels tomorrow. If there's ttoo much do I have to remove the pan to take some Luis out?

i used sea foam several times thru the brake booster and all my neighbers think i finally blew up my car. it cleans so well that depending on how dirty it is, billowing smoke comes out the pipes andi swear it runs better especially in my 99 crown vic with 211k on it,marty

You dont need to remove the pan, just the drain plug located in the pan.

Sure, you ran seafoam through your engine not your trans.

Unless he has an aftermarket pan there is no drain plug...

So yes he would have to remove the pan to lower the level... Unless he rigged up a tiny hose and sucked the fluid out of the dip stick pipe.

I've sucked out fluid with a hose down the dipstick a number of times
Takes time but works...no pan removal necessary

Can also loosen trans cooler line at radiator, put hose on line and into a waste/catch can, crank up car, idle for less than minute. then re-attach line to radiator. Why pull the pan, and waste all that ATF, unless he needs to change the filter anyhow? (which probably isn't a bad idea, if you don't know how long since it has been done.)
