Both bolts with correct length & knurling were included with the starter I bought. Unless things changed, they should be the same...
    And they're not metric.:D

Dang it! Someone bought it and now it, too, is unavailable.

    Just my luck.

That's nuts. It can go in my cart now.

Bought it before it happens again!

Just bought one too! Been eyeing the RobbMC starter but this is cheap enough to roll the dice on!

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I just muscled my big ol' starter back in, so I am kind of jealous.

Bought one of the starters Reidk linked as well, it did the same out of stock and then I could add it quirk that knucklebusted experienced!

I have thought about buying a second one to leave in the trunk or at least take on long trips. I was concerned about its quality as well. The reason I knew this one would work on a buick is because of this review. Screenshot_20210319-213824_Samsung Internet.jpg

    The beauty of a 4-sp.:).

These days, you could always just call Uber and get to an auto parts place for a new one. The battery in my wife's car dies one night when I was driving it. My son was w/me (not a mechanical type - My daughter got that gene) & we happened to be @ Home Depot. No problem I said. Went back into HD & bought a 10mm wrench. Came out and summoned Uber - Walmart wasn't too far away and knew they'd have a battery. When I told the Uber driver what was up, he pulled out a jump box and got us started but still we'd have gotten it done regardless. Was a good lesson for the boy.

I find it funny how everyone is scared to drive their old cars (not referring to you obviously as you're talking about doing it). These days w/cell phones, Uber, and mini-storage places everywhere it's no big deal. I drive my 20 y/o beater car on long trips (parts runs) w/my little utility trailer (probably taking it to the Nationals this year). I figure if it goes FUBAR, I'll just get the trailer/parts/etc. towed to a mini storage & scrap the car & get to bus, train, or airport or go rent a U-Haul pickup & tow dolly & haul it all back home.

Things are so much easier today unlike when I blew the rear in Bowling Green in my GS that we drove to the Nationals back in '86. Still managed to get a rear delivered to the Hotel on a Sunday plus the local guy took me into town to get the part we needed.

Well, I took the pressure washer to the bell housing, bell housing cover and the engine. 50 years a grunge makes a heck of a mess. I was covered in greasy goo from the splash and had a really hard time pushing the motor back into the garage.

I still can't get the manifold bolts broke loose. Going to try heat tomorrow on a few to see how it goes. That is the last of my REAL MAPP gas cylinder. Anyone use MAP-Pro with any luck?

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I got all but one of mine with a 6 sided box wrench and a hammer. Repeatedly tapping/hitting the wrench for several days and then reapplying liquid wrench and trying again. The last one broke...

And yes I did use my MAP gas also.

If you had one of those tools you hit with a hammer you can put a socket on the end of it and wack it with the hammer, each time you hit it with hammer it turns.
heat the bolt up with the torch that will send the heat down the bolt and that should break the seal to the motor.

Use a 6 point socket that fits tight or a box end wrench and hit it with a hammer.
Sometimes you have to tighten bolt back up and then loosen again to get it started squirt some juice in there at same time.

I have heard that mixing acetone with transmission fluid makes good penetrating oil.
If you have a brass bar you can put that on the end of the bolt and give it a wack with the hammer sometimes that helps to knock the bolt loose.

I just went through this. After a few days of using penetrating oil I finally just went for it. I busted a bunch of them but was able to twist a bunch of the busted bolts out with a pair of knipex pliers. They are German made and very expensive but they are worth it. Use the channel lock style knipex. In the end I had to drill and tap 5 of them. Dont waste time with junk drills bits. Go and buy cobalt chromium bits just the size you need. Dont use a Chinese tap either. go buy a couple of taps just the size you need. Ace hardware or similar stores will have these. I spent around 5 minutes per hole. I used headers and a couple of the holes didnt line up perfectly. The header hole was easy to bore out a little bigger. In the end this worked for me but if you intend to use manifolds you'll need to be spot on with the tap. They wont be as forgiving with alignment.

Another option that works occassionally is to turn your impact down to its lowest setting and let it hammer on the bolt for a while. This worked on a couple of mine.

If you guys just pull your engine every couple of years, or remove your manifolds or headers, you won't have this frozen bolt issue.:D:D:D
