Pretty much decided on getting an enclosed trailer for the Skyhawk. 20 - 24' long. Dont wanna spend new trailer money for something that is for the most part a portable garage. The more decked out the more I may be willing to spend. Escape door a +. Low profile / V nose preferred. No need to drag a brick around. Closer to N Fl the better but will travel for the right deal. Looking at Ebay , C/L & market place prices are all over the place. Seems theres better deals on new than some of these worn out used units. LMK. Thanks
Check out racingjunk.com (just talked to someone who got a heck of a deal on there) and there's (was at least) a trailers for sale page on FB that I used to see some seemingly good deals on before I disabled my account. The stuff I see on CL almost always seems to be high. There's a lot of new junk out there. Seems to be better to buy a used higher end one.
Briz look at smaller gooseneck trailers also. Yes you need the hitch but far superior ride for you and the car. I bought this last month of racejunk As you see it for 12,000 with 6 new tires and batteries. Sleeping area and bathroom, and generator garage up front. Racepak computer and dual monitors on the wall with all the pit pall stuff also.
If the car is small look at a horse trailer at 7', 7.5', 8' width I just got this Sooner horse trailer for 5,000 20 ft floor 8 ft over truck by 7ft width, all aluminum 16,000 GVWR hauls like a dream. I bought it for my camp maintenance business. Has living area also...
Anything new under $8000 is junk, I looked hard and long about 2 years ago and was really disappointed. Then I bought a 24’ 1990 Pace from bballsam on here and it was the best money I could have spent on a trailer. Several pieces of advice which you may already know, don’t buy less than 24’ and not less than 5,000 axels, and a escape door is a MUST! Also a good anti-sway hitch is the best thing since fuel injection!
I like my cynergy.....bought it new in Georgia. Was about 6k for 28ft box plus v nose. Added extra height, tongue, thicker skin, rear drag wheels. Tows great behind my truck or rv. South East cargo
Not really looking to buy 5th wheel. dont really want or need the living area. Most of what im seeing online (CL, Market Place and RJ) dont have an escape door on the L side. Saw Carl's trailer at the nats last yr and that was right in line with what Im thinking about. Never saw one like it before and sort of reminded me of the old Mr Ed's dragster trailer.
I have a 2005 pace 24 footer I’m thinking about selling. I’m in Chattanooga, TN. No escape door though
I would call it a car hauler.. It has 5 5200 sprun axles both with brakes 6 lug rims, radial tires. Led lights, 1 piece aluminum roof, has marker/turn signal light halfway, dot tape, stone guard, polished corners, 6 d rings in the floor. I added larger man door, 6" extra height, extra roof support, its framed for a/c, thicker aluminum siding, extended tongue, and steel drag wheels on the rear corners to protect them. I didn't spring for the extra door, cabinets, power, etc. But at the time it was like 6000 or 6500 new picked in Georgia. Same trailer to the tee on a lot in KY at the time was 9200. I dont tow tons and tons, but it has about 5000k miles on it so far with no issues. For what I do I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I'm sure there is better built on the market.....but this will last me many many years
If you are planning on the Skyhawk being the primary vehicle stored in it, the side door is not needed, IMO.
When I ordered my 24’ the best advice the dealer gave me was to upgrade to 7,xxxlb axles w 8 lug wheels and 16” tires. Never had a tire problem and the trailer pulled great With the upgrade it included extra I beams on the frame as well. 5,200lb axles are boarder line giving the cgvw of the trailer, car and extras u will take along for the ride
We shopped for a used enclosed trailer for quite some time. Many with 5200lb dexter axles had uneven tread wear on tires. One guy carried 3 spares on the tongue of trailer. We considered going 16” tires on 6 lug wheels but the price difference upgrading to 7,000lb axles was about $300 over the wheel n tire upgrade alone We added sway and leveling bars too and pulled behind 3500 gmc duramax. That set up would roll and the last thing I needed was a tire issue
