My wifes '69 Skylark is currently black, It has all the custom chrome pieces and I want to make sure the chrome is appreciated with our new paint scheme. She would like to do a "two-tone" paint job. Using the original Champagne Mist Poly in the front portion of the car below the chrome and starting on the point of the GS hood and over the car and having the rest be a dark sort of blood red color with a light metallic through out the whole car. Thoughts? Concerns? Disgusts? :Do No: Im not sure I know it'll look ok but Im just hoping maybe someone whos had a similar experience can save me alot of time, work and money.

Honestly, I do not the 68's and 69's in two tones. I think they look better in a single color paint scheme. Just my.02

Good Luck on your project! :beer

That two tone combo is going to make it hard to sell if you ever decide to do so. If it was black originally I would paint it back that color in base coat clear coat.

Original it is the champagne mist, and im thinkin Ill have to look for a few paint programs or something to play with on the computer, anybody know of anythign for this kind of program? Also Ive been catching grief for wanting to get rid of my vinyl top, it's going to need to come off for work anyhow, but everybody says "oh but the vinyl top makes the Buick!" Whatever I dont care about that but i wonder about that also.

Paint it all one color and then buy some pearl and spray it over your entire car to give it that one off paint scheme. If you don't tell anyone they really won't notice the custom job. Unless of course you bury the car in pearl. Cool affect!!!!!!!!

Although I'm no fan of any kind of customizing, I've always thought it was a neat idea to two-tone a 68-9, since the body line is so reminiscent of two-tone 50s Buicks.

The Riviera looks good that way because it has a distinct line that you are able to follow, does anyone have an example of the pearl look? Id like to be able to show the Mrs.

I think one reason that works so well is the dark color hides the body line somewhat. I'm also of the opinion that the 68/69s look terrible in two tone, at least if you use that body line for the split.
One possibility I was considering was a GSX type scheme, but with the stripes ending on the rear quarter, with the ends following the turn-down of the trunk line. No spoiler, or stripe across the back. They just don't look right on the 69s.
