Let's give Terry Simpson a boost on Facebook as he tries his hand at qualifying and racing a super modified at our local track this weekend.

Hey I've been asked to drive the "Rockstar Rocket". It's the Rockstar Energy drink ISMA supermodified car*and it will be at*Delaware both Friday and Saturday night. The car has tried to make the last two races but has failed to make the show. I talked to my team and they said they'd like the challenge of seeing if we can qualify and race the car. It's a big challenge since we don't have any time to practise or to shake it down. We are going to see what we can do in the limited time frame*so wish us luck.

First I'd like to thank everyone for the support and well wishes; it was greatly appreciated. This was kind of a last minute deal that was put together just days before the race. It didn't allow much time for my team to go over the car, no practice at all, heck it was just a scramble even to get me fitted to the car.
The Friday night race the team was plagued with a leaking valve cover gasket and no rear brakes, but all issues were fixed before the feature race only to have the throttle hang up on lap one. Trust me when I say that it wasn't a comforting feeling having the throttle hang partly open.
We were hoping that Saturday would be a better day. Having repaired the brakes, valve cover leak and now the throttle pedal, the team felt we should be able to start working on improving the handling and busting out some competitive lap times. Only one practice session today so we needed to make it really count. Just two laps at full speed and the rad started pushing water - I had to pull in because was covering my helmet and I couldn't see. So much for practice. The team put some Iron Tight in the cooling system as there was no time to replace the radiator before the heat race, we also replaced the rad cap as an added precaution. I asked to start at the back of the heat race as I didn't know if the repairs would work. Two laps into the heat and it was clear the new rad cap wasn't working properly.
For the feature we put the old rad cap back on and re-filled the cooling system once again. I started 18th and I took it cool for the first few laps only letting one car by. Realizing that the car was holding together, I started pushing it more and more, passing two cars in the process. After clearing those cars the lead pack was about five car length ahead and I reeled them in about two laps. The car was handling well and it was clear we had something for them. I shot low out of turn four looking for another spot and then the engine errupted into a huge fire ball. I had to quickly bring the car to a stop as there was a small fire still burning at my feet. I got out and the track official put the fire out. Our night was over.

Although the weekend didn't turn out how my team wanted it to go, I am very proud of how they never gave up and kept pushing through all the adversity. We hope the Rockstar is pleased and our team has already been asked to field the car at a few more races this year.

Please keep visiting the Facebook page for updates. With any luck and your continued support this might turn into a full year deal in 2013.

For all of you not familar with these cars I will give you some quick stats:

470 cid alcohol burning big block chev

800-900 hp, most of the motors are above the 850 hp mark

1850 lbs, with 68% left side weight

the right rear tire is over 18" wide

    direct drive - no transmission

huge adjustable top wing on air cylinders

I wonder if Dan and Bob would pass this off as "Pure Stock" legal?
